April 4, 2013:

THE CRAZY DAY THAT WAS YESTERDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’d really like to kick these damn allergies in the ASS. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, would like to kick these damn allergies in the ASS. My eyes are itchy and I feel lethargic – I’ve taken an Alavert but it’s taking a lot time to kick in, which is odd since in kicked Alavert right away. Anyway, I need these damn allergies to get the HELL off me.

Yesterday was so crazy I can’t even remember everything that happened. I got up at nine because the damn dog next door didn’t like the fact that two people on the other side of that house were having a conversation. I spent some of the morning fretting about when A Time for Singing was going to arrive at the mail place. The helper had gone there and hung out at Starbuck’s from eight in the morning. By ten-thirty it still wasn’t there so she left. Of course, it arrived ten minutes later, but no one let her or me know and I didn’t find out about it till noon, and by that time it was too late for her to do anything about it. So, those will all go out this morning. Then I did a three-mile jog but got back too late to avoid the lunch rush at Jerry’s Deli. So, I did some work on the computer. I then got an e-mail answering a query I had about our upcoming release and the answer was an affirmative – so I stopped the master from going to the pressing plant because it looks like we’re going to be able to include a cue that was missing on the previous release of this title. So, that was great news. It will throw the release back about a week, but that’s fine. As long as we do two releases in April it really doesn’t matter which weeks they’re announced. And then another e-mail came and it seems they’d also just discovered five reels of tape for this project. Since my mastering guy had done the previous release we didn’t really need tapes, but I’d asked them to pull what they had and they could only find two tiny five-inch reels – they didn’t have anything interesting on them save for an alternate mix of the end title. So, I was wondering where the tape was that they used for the last release. It turns out that tape and four others were filed under the wrong title – a slight but very amusing variation, which I can’t tell you now but will when we announce. So, those tapes are being pulled and hopefully I’ll get them today or, more likely, tomorrow. So, the mystery of these four other tapes has got me cautiously hopeful that they’re something wonderful. They could just be more of those five-inch things, they could have the missing cue, which means I would save a step in having to do a time-consuming transfer, they could be better quality than the previous release – so many possibilities so send some excellent vibes and xylophones that these tapes will be a best-case scenario.

So, I had to make several telephonic conversations about that, and have the packaging held because depending on what we find I may have to make some adjustments. Then I picked up some packages, and then I had a turkey sandwich with no fries or onion rings – only about six hundred calories at most. Then I came back home and did more work on the computer and then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a documentary entitled Hitler’s Children, about the descendants of high-ranking Nazi monsters like Goering and Hoess. Two of the people were the actual children, while others were grandchildren, but the stories of how they deal with that awful history in their lives is very affecting. On the one hand the axiom is “honor thy parents” but on the other hand when the parents were mass murderers how do you justify honoring or loving them? Each of the participants has a different story to tell. The material is so powerful that one wishes that the director wasn’t trying to put his “arty” stamp all over it – note to director: You have a powerful subject, it’s all real, and it’s not about YOU. Other than that little nitpick, I can’t say I enjoyed it, but I can say it was definitely worth seeing.

After that, I did some stuff on the computer, took my Alavert, which is finally starting to work as I type this sentence, had a visit with Miss Juliana Hansen and her dad, and that was about it. The tickets for the STAGE benefit were supposed to be dropped off today or tonight but they haven’t been so I guess I’ll have to waste my time dealing with that today. As long as they arrive before Friday it’s fine.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, it’s another jog, it’s definitely starting and finishing a set of liner notes, which will still leave two to go, I’ll hear whether I’ll pick up the new tapes today or tomorrow, I’ll do errands and whatnot, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, then late in the afternoon I’ll be supping with Jenna Rosen and her mom Heather – I think we’ll go to Hugo’s and I’ll have the pasta papa – which thanks to the Internet I found has under seven hundred calories. That’s what I’d thought, but it was nice to see it in print. Then we come back and have our second Kritzerland rehearsal.

Tomorrow I’ll be up early and then making a brief appearance at a funeral at eleven. If I haven’t picked the tapes up today, I’ll do that directly after. Saturday is our stumble-through and it’s an earlier than usual one, at noon. Then I attend the STAGE benefit. I’ve been a very good boy now for close to four weeks, food-wise, and I hope the treat will be that I can actually fit into a pair of slacks. Otherwise, I do think I’ll go over to JOS Bank and get a pair that fits nicely. Sunday is sound check and show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, write, maybe pick up tapes, hopefully pick up some packages, have an early dinner, and then rehearse. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Desert Island Day – if you could only take five count them five Blu and Rays or DVDs or videos on a Desert Island, which would they be? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland after the crazy day of yesterday.
