THE LOST MORNING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here is what happened yesterday: I lost the morning. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, lost the entire fershluganah morning because I awoke at 11:45. I couldn’t believe it – I just really needed a few of these long sleep days to make up for the days when I got three or four hours, but I really don’t like losing an entire fershluganah morning. As soon as I had my wits about me I did a three-mile jog. Any wits I had were totally gone by the time I’d finished the three-mile jog. Then I had to deal with some packaging stuff – typing up track lists and all that kind of thing. By that time, I was starving, so I went and picked up some packages, which did nothing to alleviate my hunger pangs. I went to Gelson’s and got some of those low-calorie hamburger patties and my little buns that are only 120 calories each. I got some shredded lettuce, an onion, and a lot of fruit, and then I came home.

I had to answer quite a few e-mails, had hopeful news about the missing track – Chace Audio will be picking up the dialogue, music, and effects tape in the morning and I can tell them exactly where the missing track occurs in the film’s running time – hopefully that will make it very easy for them and they can simply upload that to our Dropbox or wherever they usually upload online. As I was dealing with one e-mail, the computer did a kernel panic – I couldn’t believe it, really, after putting the new hard drive in and reinstalling everything. I called the guy who’d been helping me but he never returned the call. I’ll try someone else tomorrow. Maybe there’s just something on certain websites that causes this problem – I know which site I was on and what I was doing when it occurred.

Then I made myself two of the hamburgers, put some shredded lettuce, pickles, ketchup and mustard on the bun, then ate them all up – quite good and the total calorie count was 740. My only other foodstuffs for the day were four pieces of chocolate licorice (160 calories), fruit, and four of those frozen chicken taco things (200 calories) – so under 1200 calories but I jogged some of that off. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Hell’s Half Acre, a mellerdrama/crime thing from Republic Studios, starring Wendell Corey and Evelyn Keyes. It was okay – poorly directed, but a script by Steven Fisher, who wrote I Wake Up Screaming, so the story was at least interesting. Mostly shot in Hawaii with nice black-and-white photography. It’s the kind of B-movie that should run around seventy minutes – this one ran ninety-three. Transfer was okay. I then watched the first forty minutes of Charles Chaplin’s Monsieur Verdoux, a black comedy. I’ve always enjoyed the film and there were quite a few chuckles in the first forty minutes. I’ll finish it at some point today.

Then it was back to packaging matters and listening matters, the listening involving the final auditions of three gals for the Hofstetter books. One just wasn’t what I’m looking for, one was merely okay, and one was very good and has real possibilities – I’d have to work with her on certain things, but she “gets” the style. The one other that I’ve heard was from the gal I was really rooting for, but her final audition just was sloppy and nowhere near as good as her first. We sent word to her that I thought she sounded tired and not with it, since there was a lot of fumfering around with the words, and just no real commitment. She confirmed she was very tired and just trying to get it done. I suggested she do it again and this time give it the time and attention it needs, and she will – she’s opening in Grease this Friday (Barry Pearl’s production) and once she’s past that she’ll be in a better place to do this. Beyond that, I still have about four others to hear.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep, but I definitely do NOT want to sleep till noon again.

Today, I shall do a jog, do some writing, do some errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages, and then I’ll be taping The Broadway Radio Show with our very own Mr. Donald Feltham – we’ll be talking about A Time for Singing and the Juliana Hansen CD.

Tomorrow is opening night for Grease – not sure if we’re meeting somewhere for dinner prior to the show, but I’m sure there will be some kind of opening night partay after, although I’m not sure I’ll attend that. Not sure what the weekend holds, but I’m hoping for some relaxation and I know I’m having lunch with the Staitmans on Sunday, so that’s always fun.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, do errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages, eat, do a radio show, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite shorts and films of Mr. Charles Chaplin? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I will hopefully arise in the morning so I will not have another lost morning.
