THE NEVERENDING TUESDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must say that some days seem never-ending, don’t they? Yes, I must say that and I did say that. And yesterday was the Neverending Tuesday – it just went on and on and on until it was Wednesday, which it is now. I did get a wonderful night’s sleep, so that was helpful. I was up at ten, and then listening to more tracks, and finally ascertaining that we absolutely do not have one track – it is missing. So, we’re trying now to hurriedly get the music track from the film itself – the quality won’t be optimal but we’ll have the track. I was supposed to hear about it by the end of the day but of course didn’t. I then did a three-mile jog. Then I continued choosing songs for the next Kritzerland show and discussing possible singers. Then I was really hungry so I went over to Hugo’s and had some pasta papa. After that, I picked up a couple of packages, then came home.

Then I buckled down, Winsocki and spent two hours writing the first of what will be five sets of liner notes. Then I took a break and watched the two-hour season premiere of Mad Men. It was very good but even though I could fast-forward through the relentless and awful commercials, it was so irritating to keep having it interrupted literally every six minutes or so. It’s always fun coming back to characters we’ve spent a lot of time with. My only little problems with the show are the ones I’ve always had – I don’t really LIKE any of the characters on the show, most especially the leading man. But the actors all do wonderfully and it’s a very good-looking show.

After that, I spent two more hours writing the second of five sets of liner notes. That really did me in and I couldn’t even think straight after that. No, I could only think crooked. I finally answered a bunch of e-mails, did some track lists, listened to some music, and heard that the multi-track tapes for an upcoming project were transferred into Pro Tools and delivered to my mixing engineer, John Adams. I wish I could tell you what the project is, but all I can say is it’s from one of my all-time favorite 1970s films by one of my all-time favorite composers and it will be the score’s first ever release – it is, for me, the Holiest of Grails. The score isn’t all that long, but apparently there are a lot of alternate versions of things, so I’m hoping that will be enough – I’d prefer not having to pair this with anything else, but if we have to we have something else ready to go with it. We have some fairly astonishing releases coming this year, I must say. I just wish I could get ahead and have the next five ready to announce – that would be so nice, but it’s so hard to do. I also watched about half a movie on You Tube, fairly obscure but it’s part of a double-bill CD we’re doing – I don’t think three people know about the film, but it is famous for being part of the inspiration for a hugely popular film series. I didn’t really eat anything else – had some chocolate licorice and that was it.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I want this never-ending day to be done so I can get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall do a jog, I shall try to write two more sets of liner notes, which will leave only one to go. Hopefully, I’ll pick up some packages, I’ll eat something light but amusing, and there’s a chance I may see the East Coast Singer, who will be in town just for a day or so to look at a house she’s thinking about buying. And then maybe I can relax.

Tomorrow I will finish the last of the liner notes, and I’m doing our radio show with Donald Feltham tomorrow night – about A Time for Singing and Juliana’s CD. Friday I go to the opening night of Grease that our very own Mr. Barry Pearl has directed. I’m not sure what the weekend holds, but a little ME time would be very nice indeed.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, write more liner notes, hopefully pick up some packages, eat, maybe see the East Coast Singer, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that The Neverending Tuesday is over.
