TRIMMING THE TREES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because I must be up at six in the morning to announce two new Kritzerland titles. I cannot do as I’ve done the past two nights and go to sleep at two-thirty, then sleeping until almost noon. That is not a good thing. So, I will write like the wind and the wind is quite a good writer, so that’s heartening.

I had a peaceful and restful Sunday. I arose just before noon, which kind of put an end to the morning. I answered e-mails and then did a three-mile jog. Then I did a little work on the computer, after which I moseyed on over to Gelson’s to buy a few items. I came home and made myself two tuna sandwiches on those small calorie-friendly hamburger buns. I ate and listened to music at the same time. I then did more work on the computer, and then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched the first hour of the new Twilight Time Blu and Ray of The Song of Bernadette. I think this is my first time seeing the film in its entirety and I’m enjoying it very much. I’ll finish it this evening and give you my report. I then watched the new episode of Mad Men – some nice things and flashbacks that were, in my opinion (IMO, in Internet lingo), completely unnecessary. It’s funny to me – Jon Hamm, an actor I don’t think many people had heard of prior to this show, is now not only a producer on the show, but a director. I guess that’s what popularity or a hit show buys you, but nowhere in any season of, for example, The Sopranos, did I see its star, the great James Gandolfini, listed as any kind of producer nor did I see his name as director. Certainly he was the leading actor in a major TV series, but apparently he was content to just be brilliant in the role he created, and content to let working directors and producers do THEIR jobs. Just my two centimes. It was nice to see John Sloman back as The Heinz Guy – as you may recall, John did the Chinatown episode of Outside the Box. I continue to not like the characters, but continue to find the show compelling nonetheless, unnecessary flashback notwithstanding.

After that, I listened to two more Hofstetter auditions and I’ve now heard everyone, although one frontrunner is redoing her reading, as she was tired and fumfering a lot, and I felt she should give it her best before I make the decision. Then I began work on a difficult edit road map for one of our June projects.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get as much beauty sleep as possible before arising at six in the morning.

Today, I shall be up at six in the morning to announce two new Kritzerland titles – both of which are great and if you are a lover of film music both of which you should snap up immediately while the snapping is good. Then I may or may not go back to sleep. The tree trimming begins tomorrow with all the huge palm trees in the back, which have tons of dead leaves and stuff – they’ll be removing a lot of unnecessary shrubbery, and after they do, we’ll be planting pretty flowers back there. Other than that, I’ll hopefully print out a LOT of orders, I’ll do a jog, I’ll eat something, and then I’m seeing the musical A Catered Affair at Musical Theatre Guild.

The rest of the week is meetings and meals and finalizing casting (which is taking too damn long and I’m really irritated about it), getting singers their material, and writing three MORE sets of liner notes – oh, joy.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce two new titles, I must hopefully print out a LOT of orders, I must do a jog, I must eat, I must hopefully pick up some packages, and I must see a show. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite religious-themed films? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall hear the lovely sound of trees being trimmed.
