HOME IMPROVEMENT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, today is the day the home improvement begins. In fact, this is a week of improvement for both home and this here website, and both will be ready certainly within the next ten days. The house work has been a long time coming, so it will be wonderful to finally get everything attended to – a front gate that needs to be completely replaced, all the dry rotted wood and window treatments where the dry rot occurred replaced, a new side door to the garage and lots of other little things, after which some painting will occur. And, of course, this week we will continue to put the finishing touches on the new and improved haineshisway.com – mostly it’s just getting the interview archives up and running as well as Donald’s radio show, as well as figuring out why certain embedded links within the notes work and certain ones don’t, plus I have to be taught how to put an audio link in the notes, should I choose to do so. Also, testing will continue on the new and improved Unseemly Discussion Board – mostly everything is working as it should according to our two dear readers who’ve helped in testing it, with the only real issue being posting an event to the calendar. Once we figure out why that’s not working as it should, we should be good to go to migrate the board. Remember, that will take up to twenty-four hours and while it’s happening we’re advising everyone to not post as posts will be lost if made to the old board. I’m really hoping it will happen much quicker than the full twenty-four hours. The regular part of the site should migrate and propagate very quickly and new notes will be there as always.

Yesterday was a perfectly okay day in which I did perfectly okay things. I got up around ten-thirty, which means I got exactly eight hours of sleep. I listened to some music, did a three-mile jog, and then moseyed on over to Mystery and Imagination Books in the Dale of Glen to attend a signing for author Steven Paul Leiva’s book of essays on Ray Bradbury. It’s a very slim volume, but priced attractively at six bucks (softcover only). I saw my pal Sam Bobrick there and we had a nice chat, and Steve’s daughter Miranda and her friend Stephanie were there, and they are Adriana Hofstetter’s biggest fans and will be attending my signing in two weeks. They started almost thirty minutes late so I wasn’t able to stay much beyond that, but it was a fun event and they had a little over twenty people there, which, these days, is pretty good.
Then I came back home briefly, then moseyed on over to Art’s Deli for a two-hour meeting and meal. I’m not much for Art’s and my turkey salad sandwich was mediocre, which is par for the course sadly, at least in my opinion. But the meeting was interesting on any number of levels and we’ll see where it leads.

Then I came home again, relaxed, listened to some more music, read the new issue of Firsts Magazine, and then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night I watched the latest episode of Mad Men. It was certainly better than the last two episodes, so that was nice. In fact, I enjoyed most of it, although the shenanigans of Mr. Draper, his ex-wife, his current wife, his ex-wife’s husband – all very predictable and almost annoying. I mostly respond to Peggy’s storylines and she had some fun stuff to do. Then I watched the first hour of a motion picture on the DVR entitled Sayonara, a film I quite like. I’ll finish that up at some point soon.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button, which will soon be a thing of the past, because I must get as much beauty sleep as possible before having to arise at six in the morning to announce our new title.

Today, I shall be up at six to announce our new title, then the home improvement people are coming at eight so no time to go back to sleep, really. Then I’ll jog, eat, have a meeting with Tessa Grady and go over the first four chapters of the book, which she’ll then begin to record. After that, we have our first Kritzerland rehearsal. Some holiday Monday.

Tomorrow, two of our cast members come to rehearse (they couldn’t come to this evening’s rehearsal), then we’ll seriously start working on the little things to fix on the site. The rest of the week will be that, meals, meetings, the second Kritzerland rehearsal, the stumble-through, sound check and then show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce the new title, greet the home improvement people, do a jog, eat, meet with Tessa Grady, and have our first rehearsal. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite films about the Japanese? I’m fond of mostly anything Japanese, film-wise, and I’m interested to hear your choices. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which the home improvement will begin.
