THE BOOKS ARRIVE EARLY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I was very surprised to walk into the mail place and find that the books had arrived four days early – in fact, only a day after they shipped. So, those will all ship out today and I can’t wait for the dear readers who bought it to read it. I spent last evening signing copies and then the helper gathered them all up and off they will go. Prior to that bit of loveliness, I announced our new CD release, Too Late Blues, at six in the morning, after which I went back to bed for a couple of hours of necessary sleep. Then I got up, printed out orders, and then did a three-mile jog. I then finalized our last cast member – John Sloman, returning for his second Kritzerland show in a row. I got all the singers everything they didn’t have and we’re now all set – songs chosen, music sent, and that’s a big, big load off.

After that, I moseyed on over to Hugo’s, where I had some pasta papa, which was just what I needed. And since it’s only about six hundred calories and is VERY filling, that was just the perfect meal. Then I picked up the big boxes o’ books along with a couple of other packages, one of which contained the new Burt Bacharach memoir, which I’m looking forward to reading. When I got home, the lovely people across the street, who are doing yet more work on their house (perhaps mommy left them some money), and their workers had taken up every single parking space in front of my house. And that was it – I went ballistic, since I didn’t want to lug the boxes o’ books in through the garage. I told a group of the workers that someone had to move their car so I could park in front of my house. One of them said okay, so I sat there waiting. And waiting. And waiting. I finally said, “Maybe you didn’t understand me – move your (expletive) car NOW.” The man I suppose is the contractor said, “I’m busy now.” I said, “I don’t give a (expletive) crap if you’re busy, move your car NOW.” He just went on doing whatever he was doing. I then swung around, parked in the red in front of their house, and went right to the front door and banged on it. The housekeeper answered and could see I was miffed and before I could even speak, she said, “She’s not home now.” I let forth with some invective that they could probably hear three blocks away. The contractor guy saw I was at the front door and he immediately went to his big, ugly SUV and got in. Since his window was open I came right over to it and said, “I don’t want to see this thing parked in front of my house again EVER.” He drove off quickly. Then I lugged the boxes in, then had a couple of telephonic calls, after which I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Jubal, starring Mr. Glenn Ford, Mr. Ernest Borgnine, Mr. Rod Steiger, and Mr. Charles Bronson, directed by Delmer Daves. It’s quite a good little oater, with pretty Cinemascope photography and a good dramatic story. Glenn Ford has always been an actor I liked and he’s great, as always. Rod Steiger is at his Steigerest – slimey and gross. The transfer is mostly fine, but occasionally VERY dark, so dark you can’t even see faces – I can guarantee you it wasn’t like that in theaters or in the Technicolor prints. I then watched the first thirty minutes of a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Billy Liar. It’s a fun little film directed by John Schlesinger, starring Tom Courtney. I’ll have more to say when I’ve finished viewing it.

Then I saw that the “notes” part of this here site had been put on the ghost server – it’s not designed or anything, but they have successfully moved over all twelve years’ worth of notes, so that part is good. Now it’s up to Doug Haverty to design something I’ll be happy with, that’s not too far afield from what we already have in terms of how the notes appear. They did have to switch to a different software called WordPress (we’d used Moveable Type, but our software was from 2005 and apparently they couldn’t update from that software). So, they’ll have to show me exactly how it all works – I’m sure I’ll have a form in which I’ll cut and paste the notes, but I want to know all the easy steps for attaching video and audio, bolding, italics, and all that stuff. But, it’s finally all progressing.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, we will ship out books, I’ll do a jog, I’ll drop off a box o’ books to Mystery and Imagination in the Dale of Glen, then I have a lunch meeting at Mo’s, then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages and then I must write liner notes.

Tomorrow, I have another lunch meeting and another set of liner notes to write. Then I’ll be all caught up and I can use the weekend to start writing the contextual commentary for the next Kritzerland show. I’m sure I’ll have something going on at some point during the weekend, just not sure what.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, ship books, visit Mystery and Imagination Books, have a lunch meeting, hopefully pick up packages, write, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite films of Glenn Ford, Rod Steiger, and Ernest Borgnine? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, thrilled that the books arrived early.
