THE GHOST SITE GOES WEST

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we’re inching ever closer to getting the main part of haineshisway.com ready. Yesterday was the big day when they got the design into Word Press and I got to go play. I must say, it looks very clean and not so far afield from what people are used to that it will freak anyone out. The notes themselves are a bit wider than before, which I like. When I put in yesterday’s notes it worked perfectly. I did notice that they type itself was smaller than what we’ve had, but within an hour they’d adjusted it and now it’s the same size as we’ve always had. I inserted a video within the notes and that looked great. They still have to fix whatever problem we’re having with certain embedded links – anything posted from You Tube is fine, but not from Broadway World or Tiny Pic – those embeds show up as text rather than as an image. For example, if I put a Tiny Pic embedded link on our discussion board, it shows up as an image. So, hopefully they’ll get that sorted out quickly. Now that the main part works, though, they’re building the other six pages that you can got to from the main page – those include our Unseemly Interviews, contact, video, our radio show – and our notes archives, of course – that, in fact, is already up and running. So, I spent a few hours fooling around with all that. I also spent a few hours modifying our discussion board and adding some new stuff – there’s now a place to post about all my books, about Outside the Box – it’s all quite easy to set up and that will be a new fun thing.

Other than that, I had a nice day. I only got about five hours of sleep, but I stayed in bed for an hour before arising around eight. I did a three-mile jog, then I went to the Daily Grill where I had a shrimp cocktail and some cedar plank salmon – neither of which tasted all that good to me. But I used up a gift card I had so it didn’t cost me anything. After that I went to the mail place and picked up three days of mail – several packages and not much else. Then I did some banking, then came home. Then I spent those hours futzing around on the ghost site and ghost board. Then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I had a kind of potpourri of viewing – I was too antsy to really stick with anything. I watched the first forty minutes of a motion picture on DVD entitled Joseph Andrews, which I’ve never seen. It’s definitely trying for the Tom Jones vibe (same director) but so far it hasn’t achieved it. Ann-Margret is lovely, but I find Peter Firth fairly charmless, which is a real problem for the title character in a film. Certainly he has none of the mischief or charm of Albert Finney as Tom Jones. It’s beautifully photographed by David Watkin, but it spends a lot of time on some fairly gross visuals. I’ll finish it tonight, most likely. Then I was in a Beyond the Fringe mood so I watched the DVD of the final London performance. It doesn’t look very good and you just don’t get a sense of the theatrical energy of it, but several of the bits really do make me laugh out loud. Of course, I saw the show back in 1963, the national tour at the Huntington Hartford – we had four different lads but they were excellent. Little did I know that I’d actually briefly work with one of them – on MASH – William Christopher, who played the Alan Bennett track. I only watched about twenty minutes of it, and then decided to do a second jog, this time a mile-and-a-half. Then I went to Gelson’s and got some fruit and other calorie-friendly snacks, but other than a few melon balls the only other thing I ate was some low-fat, low-calorie popcorn.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button, because, as I’ve pointed out, once we switch over to the new site, there will be no Unseemly Button – the notes will all be written “in one.”

Today, I shall jog, then we have a video shoot here – Nick Redman is doing an interview with a filmmaker, the director of an upcoming Twilight Time Blu and Ray. So that will take up about two hours of the day, then we’ll go get some Thai food afterwards. Otherwise, I’ll read through my commentary to see if I want to change anything, and start some new liner notes.

Tomorrow I have a work session and hopefully some tapes will be ready for pick up, Saturday I’m seeing Parade in the evening and doing that awful long drive out to wherever the HELL it is. Sunday and Monday are ME days and I am looking forward to them, although Monday night is our first Kritzerland rehearsal.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, hopefully pick up some packages, do a video shoot, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite British comedies, both film and stage? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall dream on the ghost dream site.
