THEY CAN’T TAKE THAT AWAY FROM ME OR THE RELAXING DAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I needed a day of relaxation and by gum and by golly and buy bonds I got one. I had a damn day of relaxation and, as Ira Gershwin put it, they can’t take that away from me. Of course, it’s not easy to relax in ninety-five degree heat, but I managed, oh, yes, I managed. I got up at ten, I answered e-mails and found that Time Warner seemed to have finally fixed whatever their problem was, as the Internet was up and working and had been since six the previous evening. So, I called them and the short version is I got a supervisor on the phone, wouldn’t let him speak until he heard exactly what I needed to hear from him, i.e. apologies for the lies I was told and for the supervisor who I was assured would call me back but didn’t, for the endless horse manure about my modem being the problem, as well as a credit for the down time and my frustration and being lied to, an admittance that Time Warner was indeed suffering a long outage in my area and that I should have been told that immediately. The supervisor complied with each and every thing and then gave me a credit that I thought was fair. Then we cancelled the tech appointment, as he admitted there had been nothing wrong with my modem, for if there had been it wouldn’t have been working correctly for the previous eighteen hours. He is going to have his techs follow up the problem at the relay place in my area. So, that was all fine.

Then I did a three-mile jog, which was very difficult (it’s been pretty easy the last few weeks), due to the extreme heat. After that, I went and had a Cobb salad, which was really yummilicious and really nice after a week of basically eating one of three things over and over again – a sandwich, bacon and eggs, or grilled cheese. After that, I came home, did some stuff on the computer and then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled In the Name of the Father, starring Mr. Daniel Day-Lewis. A true story (apparently with many liberties in the screenplay), it’s a very strong film about one of the great perversions of justice ever. And though things are finally kind of righted and the innocent are let free after fifteen years in jail, not one of the police who perverted justice and lied and withheld evidence and tortured and abused suspects until they confessed, not a one of those slime was ever taken to task for what they did. Daniel Day-Lewis is excellent, and so is everyone else, including Emma Thompson as his lawyer. The transfer seemed okay. I then watched a little of the German Blu and Rays fro Von Richthtofen and Brown, a Roger Corman film and The Blue Max starring George Peppard. The Corman film is really bad – you don’t really know anything about anyone, many of the known American actors playing Germans are dubbed (they speak English, but I’m guessing the actors were bad at their German accents) – I watched about forty minutes and it was just endless and completely a head-scratcher. The good parts were the aerial sequences, which were occasionally breathtaking, and there’s a good score by Hugo Friedhofer. The transfer looks okay and like the low-budget film it was. The Blue Max, on the other hand, doesn’t look good at all. It’s another film I have trouble following, but I’ll try to watch it all the way through – I’ve tried that on about twelve occasions over the years but have never made it.

Then I watched the latest episode of Mad Men, for me maybe the weakest of the season (after last week’s really good episode) – way too much time spent on Don’s completely uninteresting affair, and the whole thing just meandered along without interest, at least for me.

After that, I listened to music and did stuff on the computer. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button because I must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall jog, cast our final cast member and hopefully a guest star (we have an offer out), gather up sheet music, assign songs, and get everyone their material, I shall eat, I shall hopefully pick up some packages, and hopefully get an approval on packaging that I’m waiting for, which is taking way too long – if it’s not here by Tuesday, I will personally contact the person who does the approving – I’ve let that be handled by another, but I just can’t have these three week periods where it just sits there. Other labels can do it because they have fifty things ready and can just release other stuff – I’m never in that position.

The rest of the week is meetings and meals, prepping our new release announcement (hopefully to announce somewhere at the end of the week), and seeing a couple of things.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and the mambo because today is the birthday of the very errant and truant and only occasional dear reader La Jolie Femme, aka Julieanne Pogue. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to the very errant and truant and only occasional dear reader La Jolie Femme, aka Julieanne Pogue. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO THE VERY ERRANT AND TRUANT AND ONLY OCCASIONAL DEAR READER LA JOLIE FEMME, AKA JULIEANNE POGUE!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, cast, assign songs, gather music, eat, hopefully pick up some packages and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: There have been many miscarriages and perversions of justice – what are the ones that irk you most? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a relaxing day that they can’t take away from me.
