A SIDE OF NOTES OR HALF NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is quite late so I must write these here notes in a hurry and I shall write these here notes in a hurry starting right now.  The funny thing is that my brain isn’t working in a hurry and therefore it is difficult to write notes in a hurry when the brain is just ambling along like a castrato eating Jell-O.  A Castrato Eating Jell-O – that’s the title of my next novel.  That’s quite an image, isn’t it – a castrato eating Jell-O?  Where was I?  Oh, yes, notes in a hurry, but brain being blurry.  What, me worry? So, this won’t be the usual whole notes – these will be a side of notes, or half notes or even quarter notes.

Yesterday was an interesting day.  I woke up at eight.  That was interesting and yet not.  Workers worked and I answered some e-mails, then did a three-mile jog.  Then I went and had a Cobb Salad, which was yummilicious in the extreme.  After that, I came home and did some work on the computer and had a few telephonic conversations.  Then I moseyed on over to the Catalina Bar and Grill in the Wood of Holly, where I met Mr. Jason Graae.  We had a meeting with the fellow who books the room, and we’ve set a tentative date for the filming of Jason’s Jerry Herman show – September 18, a Wednesday night.  After that, I came back home.  At that point, the worker announced he was finished.  We walked the house and outside and everything looks great – they really did a good job.  He did two additional things for me – the main bathroom’s toilet had ancient fittings and seals so we replaced them and put new ones in, and I realized how the June bugs were getting into the house – through the open mail slot, flying down and out through the grill that’s inside the house – in other words, nothing to block them from getting in.  So, he put a flap instead of the open slot and that solved that problem and we haven’t seen hide nor hair of a June bug since.  So, work is complete and I don’t have to get up at eight anymore unless I damn well feel like it, save for tomorrow when she of the Evil Eye arrives, and Sunday when I am up VERY early to fly to Washington DC.  Then it was time to attend an opening night.

Last night, I saw a play entitled Night Hawks, which was co-directed by our very own Mr. Barry Pearl.  It’s an interesting piece with some very good dialogue and it’s a very nice production.  The actors are all fine, although I do wish Barry were actually in the show, too (he did the readings).  The play has a device that bookends it and, for me, the device didn’t work and I’d kind of like to see it without the device, just to see if that DID work.  The audience was appreciative and I knew several people in attendance, so that’s always nice.  They had a little opening night soiree in an adjoining space so I hung out there a little before having to come home to meet our very own Mr. Nick Redman.  But I was so hungry by that point that I stopped at Jerry’s Deli and got a turkey sandwich to go – I probably shouldn’t have, but I needed to eat and that seemed like a reasonably sized thing to eat.  I came home and wolfed it down, then Nick came by and we had a lovely and long chat about many things of which I cannot speak, and he gave me the two new Twilight Time releases, Hard Times and The Only Game in Town, which I’m hopeful to watch before my trip.  And that was my day and that was my night and I had more fun than a castrato eating Jell-O.

Today, I shall hopefully sleep at least until nine if not ten, then I have some errands and whatnot to do, I’ll jog, then I have some banking to do, hopefully some packages to pick up, I’ll eat something very small, I’ll write some liner notes and then I’ll mosey on over to The Gardenia to eat (probably salmon) and see Shelly Markham’s cabaret evening, which I’m looking forward to.

Tomorrow, I pack, relax, have a late lunch with friends, and then watch a movie, write notes and schedule them, and get to bed early.  Sunday morning I leave for the airport very early and I arrive in Washington DC around four.  I’m not sure what the dinner situation is that night, but I’m hoping the East Coast Singer can dine with me.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, do errands and whatnot, do banking, hopefully pick up some packages, write, then attend a cabaret show.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player, and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – CD, endless things.  Blu and Ray, Nicholas and Alexandra, and then the two new Twilight Time releases.  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall do lots o’ things and then return to writing whole notes.
