HEAD-TURNERS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear reader, I’m not quite sure how it can be Friday and yet it is Friday.  This week has flown by, like a gazelle accompanying a weasel in Tinseltown.  Actually, anyone who has been in the show business knows there are many weasels in Tinseltown, but the gazelle in Tinseltown is a head-turner. Conversely, Lana Turner was a head-turner, even more so than Kathleen Turner.  Ted Turner wasn’t a head-turner, but Werner Turner, the well-known podiatrist was a foot-turner.  Tina Turner was a head-turner, while Michael Lerner was never a Turner, head or otherwise.  Then again, Margaret Thatcher was a head-scratcher.  Go know.  What the HELL am I talking about?  The one thing we have ascertained thus far is that so far these here notes are not a page-turner.

Yesterday was a day known as Thursday.  I did get eight hours of sleep, so that was good.  I did do an early three-mile jog, planked, and did thirty sit-ups, so that was good.  I then moseyed on over to LACC to do the little Q&A they’d set up for the Theatre Academy.  I’ve done this a couple of times and I always have a good time, but I must say that today’s group of students was terrific – fun, bright and attentive.  Les Ferreira, the faculty member who arranged this, had the student hosts of the hour ask the initial questions, and they were good questions and I, as always, answered forthrightly.  Then, one by one, four female students got up and sang for me (we had the terrific Dean Mora on piano).  After each was finished, I talked to them, tried to give out some pointers on interpretation and phrasing and I do love working with young folks so it was very enjoyable for me.  Then we took questions from the audience and the questions were excellent and there were lots of laughs along the way and I just had a wonderful time.  I’m hoping we can begin doing our little alumni events again – bringing in directors, casting directors, producers and agents.  This batch of kids seems very into the department and I think they’d really appreciate interacting with some of the folks we could bring in.

After that (it lasted an hour), I came back to the San Fernando Valley, picked up one package, and then had some chicken tenders – a smaller than usual amount, but they were very good.  Then I came home.  I answered e-mails, I finessed liner notes and got them on their merry way, I listened to some music from upcoming stuff, I had some telephonic calls, I scanned some photographs, found out that the Poltergeist II CDs won’t be here until noon rather than nine, which is a little irritating and is going to really put pressure on the poor helper, who has to ship 1500 CDs.  I sent out invoices to dealers and then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I meant to watch a motion picture on Blu and Ray and I began one but I immediately fell asleep for about forty-five minutes and by the time I woke up it was really too late to start.  So, instead I did stuff on the Internet, did some organizing of things around the home environment (the piles o’ stuff is really getting annoying and I’ve begun putting everything away, both in the house and moving stuff to the garage.  I hate disarray of any kind and the table in the kitchen where I have the computer is loaded with CDs, papers and other crap and it’s all going away today.

Today, I shall be up early and I’ll try to once again jog early – in order to do so I must be out of the house by ten-fifteen at the latest.  Then at noon, I’m having a lunch meeting at Musso and Frank – haven’t been there in quite a while and I’m quite certain I shall have my beloved seafood Louis, with crab, lobster and shrimp, accompanied by the thousand island dressing and some red cocktail sauce.  I’m sure dirt will be dished and it should be fun.  Then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, then I’ll come home and hopefully get some relaxing in.

Tomorrow, I must be up early, for she of the Evil Eye will be here, but mostly I’m hoping Saturday will be a light day with not too much stuff going on.  Sunday I’m seeing something at the Pasadena Playhouse, then I go directly to a dinner meeting.  Next week is insane – Sandy will be here and we’ll be working every day while she and Lanny are here.  I also will be getting 100 CD booklets signed by the composer of the score – that’s for an upcoming release, but we got everything early on the title so we can just get it out of the way.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, have a lunch meeting, hopefully pick up some packages, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – CD and Blu-ray, too many too name.  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall awaken and be a head-turner.
