A KRITZERLAND THREESOME

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for I must be up at six in the morning to announce not one, not two, but three new Kritzerland releases.  Due to the ongoing glut of releases I had to avoid like the plague the last few weeks in terms of us releasing our paltry one title every two weeks – no gluttony here.  So, we had no choice but to stack these three together because we’re several weeks behind in terms of our payments and so this was necessary.  I hate doing it, and will hopefully never ever do it again, because it’s really hard to do three at one time.  When I look at certain other labels’ releases and see five or six at one time, including humungous box sets of eight CDs or more, I just sit in wonderment that such a release can even be coordinated.  In any case, we’ve got three wonderful releases and here they are.  The first is three great scores on two CDs for a one CD price – John Wayne at Fox – The Westerns, including The Comancheros, North to Alaska, and The Undefeated, the latter two films just released on Blu-ray.  The Comancheros is by Elmer Bernstein, one of his classic western scores, North to Alaska is by Lionel Newman, and The Undefeated is by Hugo Montenegro and is a great score.  An incredible bargain and The Comancheros has been out of print for a decade now.

Next up is a real treasure of a world premiere release, the soundtrack to Billy Wilder’s classic Sabrina, starring Audrey Hepburn, with music by the great Frederick Hollander (“Falling in Love Again” and all the songs in The Blue Angel, and The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T), and the CD also includes the score to We’re No Angels.  And then we have a large number of bonus Hollander scores, including The Bride Wore Boots, Remember the Night, The Great McGinty and others.  But if you love Sabrina, you need this – I’d get it for the cover alone.

Finally, an Encore release of the sold out Bernard Herrmann double bill, A Christmas Carol/A Child is Born.  We released it back in 2008 and it sold out instantly, so we thought it would be nice to bring it back for this Christmas season.

So, they’ll all be live on the Kritzerland site first thing in the morning.  And one other thing – we’re having our second annual Christmas sale – sixteen great CDs at the low price of $9.99 each.  So, check it all out.  Our CDs make great gifts, too.

Last night, we had a nice run-through.  Everyone did well, the show was smooth, the lighting was better, and all that really needs to be adjusted is the new opening number, which simply needs some joy, so we talked about that, and will run it before the preview tonight.  I’m told they have not gotten us large (well, forty seats!) audiences for tonight and tomorrow night’s previews, which I don’t really understand, so if any of our LA folks who are reading this would like to see the show for free, just send me a private message or e-mail and I’ll arrange it.

Prior to that, I’d spent the day working on having all three releases ready to announce.  I just couldn’t seem to get everything finished until about three in the afternoon.  I did take a meal break and had some soup and a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich and no fries or onion rings.  I picked up a couple of packages, and that was about it, really.  No chance to relax or anything.

Today, I shall be up at six to announce not one, not two, but three new titles, and then I’m going back to bed.  Hopefully I’ll print out a LOT of orders during the day, I’ll eat, hopefully I’ll pick up some packages, and then have our second to last preview.

Tomorrow is more of the same and then our final preview.  Saturday is, of course, opening night and Sunday is our first matinee and also someone’s birthday.  The following week will mostly be devoted to the benefit, and also putting in Jane Noseworthy’s cover on Tuesday night.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce our new titles, hopefully print out a LOT of orders, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, and have a preview.  Today’s topic of discussions:  What are your favorite Lithuanian sayings?  I’m kidding.  What are your favorite sayings of any kind?  Lets have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall announce the Kritzerland threesome.
