SOUND AND FURY SIGNIFYING NOTHING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am of the mind that today is Wednesday.  No one can dissuade me of this notion, I’m afraid and it would be futile to try.  No, I am of the mind that today is Wednesday and that’s that.  Of course, it IS Wednesday so this is what they call sound and fury signifying nothing, although, that said, I do occasionally like my sound and fury to signify some damn thing or other.  I not only occasionally have sound and fury, sometimes I also have fury and sound.  My sound and fury is quite vociferous and it’s hard to mistake.  You know, one could take the position that this entire paragraph is signifying nothing, so perhaps we should move on.

Yesterday, if you must know, and you must, was Tuesday and quite a day of middling proportions.  Once again, I didn’t go to sleep until well after two, and I got up at ten-thirty after eight hours of sleep.  Once up, I did my morning ablutions, answered e-mails, had a few telephonic calls, and then went and had some chicken tenders.  Normally, the Jerry’s Deli chicken tenders are the best in town, but yesterday they were the worst in town and for only the second time in my long Jerry’s history, I made them take it back and bring me something else, namely a ham and Swiss on rye with no fries or onion rings.  After that, I picked up a couple of packages, then came home.  I did some work on the computer, then had a surprise visit from our very own Mr. Nick Redman.  We had a lovely chat and then he was on his merry way.  I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finished watching Evil Under the Sun, the fourth movie in the Agatha Christie Mystery Collection Blu-ray box from Spain.  Even though I had the same four films on DVD, I apparently never got around to watching Evil Under the Sun because it was entirely new to me.  I enjoyed it, but it’s not nearly as good as Orient Express or Death on the Nile.  It’s a fun cast, certainly, with Peter Ustinov returning as Hercule Poirot, along with Colin Blakely and Dennis Quilley, both of whom appeared in Orient Express.  Then there’s Maggie Smith, James Mason, an obnoxious and bad performance by Sylvia Miles, Jane Birkin, Diana Rigg and I think that’s about it.  The script is once again by Anthony Shaffer.  The best thing about the movie is John Lanchberry’s great arrangements of Cole Porter music – just wonderful.  It’s amiable, but the mystery isn’t as much fun as the first two films.  However, it’s the best-looking Blu-ray in the set – a gorgeous transfer with great and perfect color.

I’d received three screeners earlier in the day, and I began watching one of them, August: Osage County, which I’m not loving as yet.  The other two are The Butler and Philomena.  I watched about fifteen minutes, then decided to begin writing the commentary for the next Kritzerland shows. I got a third of the way done on that, so that was good.  My goodness, these notes have turned a little dry, haven’t they?  Maybe we need some sound and fury signifying nothing, maybe that’s what we need.

Today, I shall deal with a little scam thing in the morning and hopefully that will be swift and done with within minutes.  It happened on Facebook and I’ve learned my lesson to simply never click on anything, no matter how interesting it may seem.  Then I’ll eat something light but amusing, hopefully pick up some packages, finish the commentary and begin some liner notes and that’s about it, other than finishing the movie I just began.

Tomorrow, it’s back to the theater for our show and Jane’s return (she does tomorrow and Saturday and Christanna does Friday and Sunday), then it’s more writing, benefit stuff, some details to work out on the recording we’re doing at the end of January, and attending at least one other performance of the show, probably Saturday night’s.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the old-fashioned waltz, because today we have two count them two birthdays to celebrate.  The first birthday to celebrate belongs to our very own not very present dear reader PennyO.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own not very present dear reader PennyO.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRHTDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN NOT VERY PRESENT DEAR READER PENNYO!!!

Our next birthday belongs to dan-the-man, yet another not very present dear reader who seems only interested in Facebook these days.  Pity that.  But let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer anyway to dan-the-man.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO THE NOT VERY PRESENT DAN-THE-MAN!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, deal with a little scam thing swiftly and strongly, eat, hopefully pick up packages, finish commentary and begin liner notes, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall arise and make a lot of sound and fury signifying something, just for a change of pace.
