THE CALM BEFORE THE CRAZY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the busy week continues, although I must admit that yesterday wasn’t really part of it.  Not that it wasn’t busy, because it was, but nothing like today through next Monday night.  No, we had a teeny-tiny bit of respite from the busy and I was very happy for it, brief as it was.

I didn’t really get to sleep until about two, so I awoke at ten-thirty.  I got up, got my wits about me, and did quite a bit of futzing and finessing the previous day’s writing, which was about nine pages’ worth.  That took quite a while, and then I wrote just a few paragraphs of new stuff before toddling off to have some food.  I had a patty melt and onion rings and no tap tap tapioca pudding.  I picked up no packages and then I returned home.  I then wrote about three pages, then answered e-mails and had a few telephonic conversations.  Then I wrote another page or two, revised some stuff, took a hot shower, had an English muffin, relaxed a bit, and then wrote some more.  All told, around eight pages.  Nothing much else to report.

Tomorrow, though, begins the REALLY busy stuff.  I’ll be up by nine, I’ll be futzing and finessing, maybe writing a page or two, then printing out the current batch of pages, which is over fifty, not bad for one week, then I’ll Xerox and get them over to Muse Margaret.  I’ll then have a very short window to eat something, hopefully pick up some packages, and then it’s a one-hour work session with Jason Graae for the recording this weekend.  Directly after that, we have our second Kritzerland rehearsal, beginning at three.  That will probably take about four hours.  And right after that, I have a work session with the musical director of the recording – I can’t let that last for more than an hour, and right after it’s over, I’ll try to get three or four pages done before bed.  I’m also hoping to hear from Muse Margaret.

Thursday, it continues.  I have to be at a band rehearsal in the morning – don’t know if I’ll stay for more than an hour, and then I’ll eat and try to get some pages done before our stumble-through, which is in the late afternoon.  Once that’s done, I can write some more pages – again, my goal is four to five a day no matter what.  Friday is a sitzprobe and I have to be there for the entire three and a half hours, after which I’ll grab a quick bite and then head over to the theater for a five o’clock work session with Laura Wolfe, who’s going into the show this weekend.  We’ll just do detail work on her solos until two of her cast mates show up – at that point we’ll walk her through stuff.  She’ll also be there tomorrow night without Kay or me, just to walk the group numbers.  So, I’ll be there until nine or ten, then hurry home and write a bit as I won’t have had any time before the sitzprobe to do so, unless I get up at seven or so, which I may well do.  Saturday I’ll be at the studio at nine and we’re supposed to wrap by seven, but since Christiane Noll is with us for only one day, we have to make absolutely certain we’ve got everything we need.  If we do wrap by seven, then I can hurry to the theater for our re-opening and to support Laura.  Happily, I can still get home by ten and then try to write a page or three.  Sunday we continue and finish the recording by seven or so.  Then I’ll go directly home and write.  Monday I at least have until five to write and relax – then it’s sound check and show.

But after Monday, I am not talkin’ to anyone for four or five days, so I can finish the book, which I’m hoping to.  I’m sure I’ll have a bit of futzing and finessing to do from what I write on the busiest of days, but I am already in the home stretch of the book, with about seventy-five pages to go.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, print and Xerox pages and get them to Muse Margaret, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, have a work session, have a rehearsal, have a work session and write.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall began a non-stop day and evening of stuff.
