THUS BEGINS A VERY BUSY WEEK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, thus begins a very busy week.  Not only does thus begin a very busy week, but I do, too.  Thus and I are busy this week.  So, let’s get the ball rolling by announcing the brand spanking new Kritzerland release, Franz Waxman’s gloriously glorious score for Demetrius and the Gladiators.  It’s been over a decade since the previous release, and this new release has been completely redone from the original elements and it’s a nice step up from the previous release.  There are some additional cues, and on the previous release there were several really important cues that had to be put in a bonus section due to their damaged condition.  Those cues have all been cleaned up and are now in the proper score presentation.  If you like scores such as The Robe and David and Bathsheba, this will be your cup o’ tea.  Here’s the cover.

By the time most of you are reading these here notes it will be live at Kritzerland, ready for purchase.  I feel one cannot have enough soundtracks to Victor Mature movies in their collection.

Yesterday it was my intention to have mostly a writing day, and hence I had mostly a writing day.  I guess I was so exhausted from my measly four hours of sleep that I needed to catch up, which I did – sleeping until eleven.  I got up, answered e-mails, then futzed and finessed the previous day’s writing and then began a new chapter.  I wrote three pages very quickly.  Then I took the first of my breaks and went and had a cup of chili and a ham and Swiss on rye, along with some tap tap tapioca pudding for dessert.  After that, I came home and wrote another page or two, then had to drive to Reseda to pick something up.  After that, I came home and wrote another page, then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched another hour of For a Few Dollars More, which I’d started a couple of weeks ago.  I really enjoy this middle part of the Leone trilogy the most.  The transfer is really wanting and needs to be redone.  I kept dozing off, so after the hour I finally stopped.

Then I went back to writing and wrote more pages, for a total of nine, and almost finishing the chapter I’m on.  That was a very good day of writing, if you ask me.  After that, I took a hot shower, then I got everything ready for our new release announcement, then relaxed.

Today, I shall be up at six to announce Demetrius and the Gladiators, after which I may or may not try to get some more sleep.  Whichever way that goes, I’ll be up by nine-thirty at the latest to begin the futzing and finessing.  Then I’ll write, I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll hopefully print out a LOT of orders, and then at four we have our first Kritzerland rehearsal.  Those are always a joy for me, so I’m looking forward to it.  Then I’m sure I’ll write some more.

Tomorrow, I know there’s something going on at some point, but I shall write for sure and do whatever it is I’m supposed to do.  Wednesday, I’ll print out and Xerox the new batch of pages and get them to Muse Margaret, then I have a work session, then our second Kritzerland rehearsal, Thursday is more of the same and attending a band rehearsal and then it’s our stumble-through.  Thanks to two of our revue actors I may then, after all that, have to go down to the theater, since they can’t be with us on our scheduled day, even though they’ve know about that for almost a month. If I’m unable to be there, our stage manager will handle that rehearsal, which will basically be a walk-through of the show in the new space, and the put-in of our new cast member. Friday we have a sitzprobe, and then that night we have a rehearsal at the theater, where Kay Cole and I will just do detail work with the three cast members who CAN be there.  And that’s all I’m saying about THAT.  It would be nice to have a few moments of relaxation, but it looks doubtful, and I will have to be up early on each day to get any kind of writing done – obviously they won’t be nine page days, but I would like to at least get five done – perhaps two in the morning and three later in the evening.  Saturday I’m in the studio for the first of two recording days for And the World Goes Round.  IF we get lucky and I can wrap the session at the scheduled wrap time of seven or even seven-thirty, then I’ll try to hurry over to the theater for the reopening of our little show.  Sunday is the second day of recording, and thank goodness when we wrap I can just go home.  Then Monday is our sound check and show.  And for the following four days beware to anyone asking me to do anything, because it won’t be happening.  That will be a relaxing and writing four days and that’s just the way it is.  I’m exhausted just typing it.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce our new title, hopefully print out a LOT of orders, write, eat, write, have our first Kritzerland rehearsal, and write.  Today’s topic of discussion: What were your favorite children’s records when you were growing up, meaning records specifically for kids?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which thus and I will begin our very busy week.
