WHAT I FIND ODD

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, you know what I find odd?  Well, I’ll tell you what I find odd, for why should I withhold such information from dear readers such as yourselves.  What I find odd is when something just changes, all by its lonesome and nothing to do with anything I’ve done.  Here’s an example of something that happened that will illustrate this perfectly.  I imported a couple of CDs into iTunes recently.  When I loaded them the numbers of the tracks didn’t go in in order.  They’ve always been in order, I have changed nothing, and yet the tracks were not in numerical order but in random order, which, frankly, I found a little random.  I thought maybe it was something to do with that particular CD, but the same thing happened last night with another CD.  When I clicked somewhere on the tune list before importing it changed the numbers back the way they should have been.  But why had it changed in the first place?  Then I played the CD I imported.  Normally it just goes from track to track as it’s done since the first day I had iTunes.  Not last night – it would finish a track then jump to some other track from some other album.  I clicked everything but nothing would help.  I finally Googled it and the first article suggested I turn shuffle play off.  That would have been the perfect solution if I’d turned it ON, which I hadn’t.  But I went to “controls” and “shuffle” and even though I hadn’t turned it on it was on.  How does that happen?  I turned it off and all was well and well was all, but baffled I was and I was baffled.  And that is what I find odd.  I also find this entire paragraph odd, but that’s another story.

Yesterday I also found odd.  Not bad odd, not great odd, just a little odd from time to time.  I got up at nine, turned on the heat, and stayed in bed till ten.  I then had to work on some deal points in a contract – just simple word changes and stuff and then it should be fine.  After that, I futzed and finessed the previous day’s writing and got it to my liking, decided not to end a chapter where I thought I would, and mushed on and wrote two new pages.  Then I went and had a chili, cheese and onion omelet, some potatoes and an English muffin.  When it arrived there was an omelet but since it had neither cheese nor onion I sent it back and they sent me a new one.  It wasn’t nearly as good as it usually is, but the English muffin was excellent.  Since it was a fairly light meal, I had a piece of their new four berry pie – raspberry, blackberry and two other berries I can’t remember.  I had it a la mode.  I finished most of the pie and about half the a la mode and it was very good.  I then picked up no mail as there was no mail delivery.  I came back home and wrote another three pages, then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched the first thirty minutes of a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Il Bidone, a film of Federico Fellini, starring Mr. Broderick Crawford, Miss Giulietta Masina and Mr. Richard Basehart.  It’s never spoken of in the same breath as the other early Fellini masterworks like The White Sheik, La Strada, I Vitelloni and La Notti di Cabiria – it’s always considered a lesser Fellini but I’ve always really liked it and watching the first thirty minutes I still really like it.  And the transfer thus far is pretty terrific.

I went to Gelson’s and got my evening snack: Some Chinese slaw, the little egg roll things, and a little cheesy potato casserole thing.  I came home and ate it all up.  I then made a few changes to what I’d written, then mushed on and wrote more pages, finished the chapter, and wrote a rough version of the first paragraph to the next chapter, just to have it there.  The last two chapters were critical ones and I think I got them right, at least I hope so and hopefully Muse Margaret will think so.  I took a hot shower, and that was that.  So, a total of about eight pages.

Today, I shall be up by nine-thirty at the latest, I’ll fuss and finesse, and I’ll try to get three pages done, after which I’ll grab a small bite to eat, then I’ll come home and get ready to go to LACC to teach a four-day musical theatre workshop.  The first two days will just be talking about stuff and doing questions and answers, and the last two days will be getting them on their feet to sing.  I’m looking forward to it.  I’ll come home afterwards and write more pages.

Tomorrow, I’ll be up early and then I’ll print out the current batch of pages, which should be around fifty, and I’ll get those Xeroxed and over to Muse Margaret.  Then it’s day two of the workshop.  The rest of the week is writing, prepping our next release, writing commentary and the rest of the workshop, plus one work session Thursday night with a cast member of the And the World Goes Round recording.  I’m hoping the weekend is all writing – that’s what would make me happiest.  By then, I should be in the home stretch of the book, at least that’s the hope.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, eat, do a workshop, hopefully pick up some packages, and write.  Today’s topic of discussion: What is your favorite omelet or egg dish.  Barring that, your favorite breakfast foods?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall hopefully not find anything odd.
