BUMPER STICKERS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and I am sated, not necessarily in that order.  It was another luscious meal at Ruth’s Chris who, in my opinion, can do no wrong.  I didn’t overdose on the bread this time – I had my New York strip steak, and we shared the lobster mac-and-cheese.  I didn’t order any vegetables this time, just my starter salad.  It’s funny, but the host and hostess now know us and asked about Sami’s new dog and were happy to see us.  Love when that happens.  In attendance were Sami, her mom, me, Barry Pearl and his ever-lovin’ Cindy.  Sami and I always order the same thing and she shares half her steak with her mum.  I think Barry and Cindy shared the large filet.  They had the mashed potatoes and some Brussels sprouts as their sides.  Sami had her beloved broccoli au gratin, and for dessert she had her beloved crème brulee, Cindy and Barry shared an apple crumble and I had my berries, which were the berries.  The conversation was way too much fun.  Barry and Cindy seemed to have enjoyed the show – certainly they enjoyed Sami and were very complimentary to her.  I felt the show was low energy for the most part and it’s probably because some of the cast is a bit under the weather.  Sami is, too, but she knows how to compensate and deliver a great show every time.  We are for reasons unknown plagued with lighting problems on stage left and I’ve told everyone they really need to fix it because it really looks bad.  In any case, only four more shows after today’s matinee.

Otherwise, yesterday was a perfectly normal day.  I was up early and then had poached eggs and an English muffin to tide me over.  Then I did some errands and whatnot then came back home.  Once there, I wrote the blurb for our new release, got everything to our web guy and all is ready for our announcement tomorrow morning.  I had a couple of telephonic conversations, watched a bit of a motion picture on DVD entitled Dear Heart – for some reason I’ve never seen the film, even though I’ve always loved the title song.  It stars Geraldine Page and Glenn Ford.  It seems a little forced but I’m only fifteen minutes in so we’ll see where it goes from here.

I got to the theater fairly quickly, only about thirty minutes, so that was nice.  When I left the theater to drive to Ruth’s Chris it was so foggy I could barely see in front of me.  I haven’t seen fog like that in decades.  After dinner, I came right home and here I am to prove it.

Before I continue, can I just ask what it is about Facebook that turns smart, savvy people into nudniks?  I see it time and again.  These people would, for example, never put a bumper sticker on their car, but in essence that’s exactly what their doing on Facebook.  It’s an epidemic.  People will see something on someone’s wall, some story that’s got people up in arms, like the recent spate of “We don’t serve gays” posts that sprung up like weeds.  Over and over this crap got posted – most people just looked at the headline or the photo and “shared” it without having even read the article.  There was much hand wringing and breast-beating and outrage.  Only guess what?   It wasn’t real.  It was phony, fake, BS, total malarkey.  It took me all of ninety seconds on Google to find that out, but even if I hadn’t found the article that said that the site that posted it was a “satire” site, all one had to do was actually read the damn thing.  Supposedly in Franton, Kansas, a restaurant posted that sign about not serving gays.  A simple look at the photo would tell you everything, since the sign is obviously photoshopped.  But that’s not all – Franton doesn’t exist.  No restaurant is named.  It’s all horse manure, yet people share and the outrage continues.  I have commented on every one I’ve seen and some people actually get even stupider and say things like “I don’t care if it’s fake – it COULD happen.”  Now, the stupidity of that is just mind boggling, isn’t it?  The gal who did the costumes for The Brain at the Chance Theater, who is not really a friend of mine in any sense of the word friend, posted the fake thing on her wall.  It hit my newsfeed and I pointed out to her it was fake.  She didn’t care.  She got belligerent and said like a five-year-old, “It’s MY wall and I’ll post what I want.”  That’s all she had to say to me, and for the first time in my Facebook history I unfriended someone because if she’s that ignorant that she would knowingly let stand a post that has no basis in reality, then she’s not someone I need as a Facebook friend.  I mean, honestly.  And them people post signs and slogans and sayings – literally the bumper stickers of this era.  I just sit and scratch my head in wonderment.  I’m just waiting patiently till the next “thing” comes along, at which point people will bolt from Facebook as fast as they bolted from MySpace.  End of rant.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep.  Then I’ll finish some liner notes, finesse the Kritzerland commentary, but mostly relax and enjoy the day and evening – I’m sure I’ll eat something light and amusing and I’m equally sure I’ll watch a motion picture or two.

Tomorrow, we have our first Kritzerland rehearsal.  Prior to it, I’ll be up at six to announce our new title.  I’ll hopefully pick up some packages and I’m sure I’ll have a bite after rehearsal and hopefully I’ll print out a LOT of orders.

Tuesday morning, I’ll have a visit from a book dealer who’s coming in from San Francisco on a buying trip and wants to see what I have extras of.  I have about twenty things I’m sure he’ll be interested in and I could come out with a decent amount of credit, which would be lovely.  The rest of the week is meetings and meals, our second Kritzerland rehearsal, I’ll see our show for the final time on Saturday night, and Sunday, which is closing day for the show, I’ll be here having the Kritzerland stumble-through.  Sami is part of that, and I’ve already told the theater that she will be late and they’ll have to let their audience know that in advance.  Monday is our sound check and show.  I have no idea what the reservation situation is, but hopefully I’ll know that today.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and the samba, because today is the birthday of dear reader Druxy.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to dear reader Druxy.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DEAR READER DRUXY!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, eat, relax and enjoy the day and evening.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them.  So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall not dream of Facebook or the bumper stickers therein.
