HEAD-SCRATCHING BEHAVIOR

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle doing the Lambada (The Forbidden Dance).  I do hate to be enigmatic so early in the notes, but I am constantly baffled by the way in which people behave sometimes.  More I cannot say, at this time, but more I will say at another time.  It’s a real head-scratcher and I have sent some very strong e-mails this evening and left one strong message.  Hopefully, they will understand and stop the nonsense that’s going on.  And that’s all I’m saying about THAT.

Yesterday was a long and winding day.  I did sleep late because I was very tired.  Once up, I answered e-mails, had telephonic conversations, then I went and had a patty melt and no fries or onion rings.  I came right home, answered more e-mails, wrote some e-mails that needed writing, and did some work on the computer.  We had our next release’s packaging approved, so that went off to the printer.  I paid some obscenely large Kritzerland bills, had a long telephonic conversation that had to do with paragraph one of these here notes, sent more e-mails and then began writing the Kritzerland commentary for our next show.

Then at two I had a one hour work session with the musical director of the Kritzerland show.  That went very well and I think we’ll be in good shape for our first rehearsal next Monday.  Then David Wechter came by and we talked about a little recording he wants to do of a song he wrote.  James C. Mulligan also came by to discuss the book cover art for the new book – we chatted and I think we’re all clear on what will happen now.  His roughs are very good and he knows what things to adjust.  We should have it early next week.  I spoke to Grant, who’s designing the book – he knows I’d like to get it done very quickly, so he’s doing what he needs to do to make that happen.  Then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched some more of The Eddy Duchin Story.  It’s a weird film, in certain ways, but I’m fond of bio-pics, and I like the film’s director, George Sidney, and I like the piano playing and the music.  Tyrone Power is much too old at the beginning of the film, but he’s always fun to watch.  Kim Novak is beautiful, as always.  But the first hour just ambles along slowly, with not much happening.  Then something major happens and the film becomes much less fun.  I’ve got about forty minutes to go and will finish it this evening.

After that, more telephonic calls, a new rough sketch of the book cover, which I approved, a hot shower, a trip to Gelson’s for a snack, and more commentary writing.  I also began listening to the rough mixes of And the World Goes Round – they’re frankly a little TOO rough for my taste, but it is abundantly clear that we’ll be doing a pick-up recording date in the next few weeks, to replace the horns and reed on several numbers.  It will be a full day, too.  But the vocals sound great, and that’s the most important thing.

Today, I shall finish writing the Kritzerland commentary, I shall prep our new release, I’m sure I’ll have some telephonic calls, hopefully people will stop any and all foolish behavior, hopefully I’ll pick up some packages, I’ll eat something light but amusing, and then I’ll relax.

Tomorrow is more of the same, then I’m having either a late lunch or early dinner meeting regarding Li’l Abner.  That will be fun for sure.  Friday I may or may not go down to LACC for Li’l Abner business.  Not sure what all is happening on the weekend, other than seeing our show on Saturday night – Barry Pearl and his ever-lovin’ Cindy will be there – and going to Ruth’s Chris after for our Saturday night meal.  Sunday I’m just not sure what’s going on.  Next week is very busy, with two Kritzerland rehearsals, and gearing up to shoot the first two episodes of Outside the Box at some point in the first two weeks of March.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, prep, hopefully pick up some packages, eat, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall hopefully arise to no more head-scratching behavior.
