JUDGING THE FINALS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and I must write these here notes in a hurry for I must be up early to judge the finals of a singing contest.  So, let me first say that I am sated to the point of exploding because I ate another superb dinner at Ruth’s Chris steakhouse last night after our show.  Once again, I had the New York strip steak, a small salad, and then shared sides of lobster mac-and-cheese and asparagus with hollandaise.  In attendance were Sami and her mom, Brennley Brown and her folks, and Jenna and her mom.  They’d all come to see Sami in our show – it was almost a full house, and they were a fun audience – not as vocal as Thursday (and apparently Friday night), but they were cheering at the end, the most we’ve ever had.

Prior to that, I was up at ten, and since it was overcast out, it wasn’t the right day for a jog.  Instead, I answered e-mails and did some work on the computer.  Then I spent some time with Muse Margaret going over proofer two’s suggestions – we did quite a few of them and left the others as they were because we felt they just weren’t right for us – not to say they weren’t good suggestions, but we have to go with our gut feeling.  Right now the feeling in my gut, for example, is FULL.

I entered the agreed on fixes.  Then I watched a bit of The Eddy Duchin Story, starring Tyrone Power and Kim Novak – I’ll try to finish that this evening – I’m a sucker for that kind of film, so I’m really enjoying it.  I also picked up a couple of packages, mailed an envelope, and had a few telephonic conversations.  I also wrote the blurb for the March Kritzerland show, and I’ll be doing an event page for it this evening.

Well, that was short and sweet, wasn’t it?  It was also sweet and short, but that’s another story.  I couldn’t even eke out a page for all of yesterday.  Then again, I’m tired and I’m probably forgetting things.

Today, I shall be up by nine and on my way to The Federal by 10:45.  There’s some kind of buffet for the judges – not sure I’ll really partake, but we’ll see what it is.  Then at noon the finals begin.  The rules seem to have changed a bit since last year, but I’m sure they’ll explain it all to us carefully.  I think we’ll probably be there until three or three-thirty.  Then I’ll come home and I’m hoping to have proofer three’s suggestions by then – if I do, then I’ll do the ones I’m comfortable doing, then run others by Muse Margaret.  Once that happens, then it immediately goes to Grant Geissman who’ll turn it into a beautiful book.  I’m sure in the evening hours I’ll finish watching Eddy Duchin and I’ll probably have something light to eat.  I really have to take it easy this week and next, food-wise.

Tomorrow, I have a little one-hour work session with little Hadley Miller, and then she and her dad and I will lunch.  Other than that, I’m just finishing up liner notes and relaxing, since it is a holiday.  The rest of the week is meetings and meals and going and doing and errands and whatnot.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, judge the finals of a singing contest, I must hopefully have proofer three’s suggestions, I must eat, and I must relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them.  So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall judge the finals of a singing contest.
