KRITZERLAND AT STERLING’S 43

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I’m happy to report that the forty-third Kritzerland show was a rousing success.  It was so much fun, this show.  Our cast was just stellar – Josh Grisetti, Jean Louis Kelly, Ashley Fox Linton, Jenna Lea Rosen, Sami Staitman, our very own Robert Yacko and our special guest, Terri White.  The latter kind of tore the roof off the place with Who’s That Woman – not only did she sing the HELL out of it, she tap danced, too.  I must say, this show had some of the biggest laughs we’ve had – two of the biggest were from lines I added both this morning and right before the show.  The first came when I was explaining why Guy Haines hadn’t shown up – I said, “Guy Haines was supposed to be here to help us kick off the show, but he thought we were doing a tribute to Prince and he’s depressed because he’s not singing Purple Rain, so he’s home listening to his favorite singer, Adele Dazeem.”  The second big laugh came as I was introducing our MD, Richard Berent.  After I introduced him, I said, “We always love to have Richard with us because he’s always so busy, teaching phrasing to Pink.”  So, thank you Oscars for that.  The show was filled with highlights and we were completely sold out.  We had some fun folks in attendance, including Barry Pearl, Hadley Belle Miller, Tom Hatten and his ever-lovin’ Pete Menefee, Michael Kerker, Les Traub, Howard Green (he works at Disney – he brought me the new Blu and Ray of Frozen, so I’ll finally get to see it), playwright Lissa Levin, audition coach Sarah Louise Lazarus and Michael Lavine, cousin Dee Dee and Alan, neighbors Tony Slide and Bob Gitt, Dan Callaway, Shannon Warne, and many others.  After the show, some of us went over to Little Toni’s, where I had two small meatballs and one slice of pizza.

Prior to all that, I’d had nine glorious hours of sleep.  Once up, I just relaxed, then did some banking, then finally, at long last, buckled down Winsocki and wrote some damn liner notes, finishing two-thirds of it.  That took several hours and by the time I was through, it was time to go to The Federal.  Oh, and here’s a lovelier than lovely photograph of our merry troupe.  Left to right, it’s beautiful and extremely talented Jean Louisa Kelly, co-producer Adryan Russ, Josh Grisetti, Ashley Fox Linton, li’l ol’ me, Robert Yacko, Jenna Lea Rosen, Richard Berent, Sami Staitman and Terri White.

Wasn’t that a lovelier than lovely photograph?  I’m always so proud of Jenna and Sami – they’re both growing up so fast, but also growing as performers, and with each show they just get better and better.  Jean Louisa Kelly is fantastic – I’d work with her anytime, anywhere, and am so thrilled she’s doing the first of the new season’s Outside the Box episodes.  Josh Grisetti is just a wonderful singer, but more importantly a terrific actor – I knew that way back when we recorded After the Ball, and he’s even better now.  Ashley Fox Linton is beautiful and has one of those clear as a bell sopranos that is so effortless and beautiful to listen to.  Robert Yacko is another superb singing actor and he had a feast in this show.  And words cannot describe what Terri White does or what a force of nature she is.  I love this woman.

Today, I shall be up when I’m up, then I will finish the final third of the liner notes and get those off, then the Sandy and Lanny show has been moved to Thursday because Lanny’s flight was cancelled and he can’t be here until tomorrow.  So, instead I get to have a surprise dinner with the wonderful Alet Taylor. Very much looking forward to that.  I have a casting session at eight at night for Li’l Abner at LACC.  I’m sure I’ll watch a motion picture at some point.

Tomorrow I have a lunch appointment, then an appointment after that.  Thursday I have a noon meeting at LACC to finalize our casting, student-wise, and then we have the Sandy and Lanny show.  I’m sure we’ll also be having a meal, as is our wont.  The weekend is busy, too, as I recall.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, finish liner notes, hopefully pick up some packages, dine with Alet Taylor and have a casting session.  Today’s topic of discussion: What real-life event that was a huge news item did you find most compelling – where you couldn’t stop reading about it or watching it on TV?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, thrilled that we had such a wonderful Kritzerland show.
