THE ALWAYS FUN STUMBLE THROUGH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had our stumble-through and finally hearing all these wonderful Cole Porter songs in the show order was a real treat.  As I’ve said many times, in certain ways the stumble-through is almost our favorite part of the process – just all of us in my living room performing for each other, with all that good energy.  The structure worked very well, I thought.  We had a few lyric flubs and a few piano flubs, which is par for the course, but we made fixes and ran things afterwards and I think all problems have been addressed.

After we finished, a few of us went to Jerry’s Deli, where I had a chili, cheese and onion hot dog and some fries – just what I wanted and it was great.  Then I came home and was determined to relax.  I think next weekend I am going to find me one of those foot rub places that rub feet and I am going to treat me to an hour-long pleasure-fest.  I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Netflix entitled Jobs, a bio-pic about Steve Jobs.  It starred someone called Ashton Kutcher, and, in small roles, James Woods and John Getz.  I’m sure there’s a wonderful motion picture to be made about this subject, but this wasn’t it.  It was poorly written and while Mr. Kutcher had the Jobs gait down, he mostly mumbled so that you simply couldn’t understand a word he was saying.  There are several hour-long documentaries about Jobs and I think I’ll give one of those a try, because his story seems fascinating.  Some of the film was of interest, simply because I really didn’t know the story of the early years, but as drama, it just didn’t cut the mustard or even the ketchup.

Prior to all that, she of the Evil Eye had arrived at nine – unfortunately, I’d awakened at six-thirty – I couldn’t believe it.  Four hours of sleep. I did a two-mile jog, ate poached eggs on an English muffin to tide me over till dinner, did some banking, came home to a clean house, and that was that.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep, then I’ll do a two or three-mile jog, then relax, then I’ll mosey on over to The Federal for our sound check, and then it’s show time.  After, some of us will go out for a bite.

Tomorrow, I must finish a set of liner notes and get them in for proofing so I can get some packaging approved and something released pronto.  Then I go to LACC at three to spend an hour running a few things we haven’t had a chance to really hone, and then at four we have our designer run-through.  After that’s over, whatever remaining time we have we’ll use for cleaning up stuff.

On Tuesday, Kay Cole will be back with us – she can’t move around a lot, but we’ll run the show for her and she can clean up anything she wants to, or just leave it as is.  The rest of the week will be runs of the show, then on Friday we will have an eight-hour day of scene work and honing and cleaning things and just drilling everything.  At about the five-hour mark, we’ll do a full-out run-through without stops.  I also have some meetings and meals and errands and whatnot to attend to.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, get a good night’s beauty sleep, do a jog, relax, have a sound check and do our show.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them.  So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which we shall do our Kritzerland show.
