KRITZERLAND GOES EAST

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I guess I can share what we hope will be very good news for some of our East Coast dear readers – we will be bringing the Kritzerland shows to New York, starting in either mid-November or in mid-January.  The plan is to do two separate shows – two performances of one show on Sunday, and two performances of a completely different show on Monday.  I know one of the two shows we’ll start with, and have a pretty good idea of what the other will be.  We’ll be at The Triad on the Upper West Side and we’re very excited about the possibility.  I’ll start contacting some of the singers I’ve worked with, although I will give our LA regulars a chance to do the shows, too – they’d have to get there on their own dime, but a few of them will probably be willing to for the exposure.  I do think our young performers will definitely come east for a few of the shows.  So, stay tuned for more details.

Yesterday was kind of a day.  Once again, I couldn’t get to sleep and then woke up too early and went back to sleep, getting a total of about seven hours.  Once up, I answered e-mails, had telephonic conversations and then we had our final run-through of the Ira Gershwin show, which went really well, I thought.  I only had a couple of little notes and that was that.  Sandy and Lanny left and I went and had a chicken salad sandwich and no fries or onion rings.  Then I came back home and did some writing, and got the good news that the packaging for It’s a Wonderful Life was finally approved – and that went to the printers and they’re going to start on it on Monday, so we should have CDs by either next Friday or the following Monday.  At some point, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I finished watching Downfall on Netflix.  It was quite a good film about the last days of Hitler and the fall of the Third Reich.  It was very well written and directed, and the performance of Bruno Ganz as Hitler was extraordinary.  Once that was done, Netflix had the usual recommendations that came up, one of which was a TV series from 2010 called Nazi Hunters.  So, I watched two episodes of that, but while the stories were interesting, it was presented so poorly, with loud thumping dramatic music, as if it was a film – just so overdone and mind numbing that I could watch no more.  Then I watched almost all of a motion picture entitled Sneakers, a 1992 film starring Robert Redford.  I’m pretty sure I saw it back when it came out and that I didn’t care for it much, but seeing it now I’m kind of enjoying it. Except for some smart-ass writing that’s more about the writer than the characters, the first half is really very good – then Ben Kingsley shows up and it goes off in kind of a silly direction, which is why I think the film did not do well.  But I love Redford, and it’s also got Sidney Poitier, David Straithern, Dan Ackroyd, River Phoenix and several other good actors.  I’ll finish it up today, then go back to watching Blu-rays.

After that, I moseyed on over to the Coral Café to meet Sandy and Doug Haverty (she saw his play) and also along was Shelly Markham, who’d also seen Doug’s play.  We had nachos for the table, so the four of us ate them all up, and I also had some cherry pie a la mode.

Today, I get to mostly have a ME day.  The only thing I really have to do is join Lanny and our orchestra contractor at the Daily Grill – not sure I’ll eat there – probably not – and then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I may go visit Mystery and Imagination Books, and then I’ll just relax.

Tomorrow we have sound check and then the show.  Next week, I have meetings and meals, a work session for the Kritzerland show, writing to do, and various and sundried other things.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a brief meeting with Lanny and our contractor, hopefully pick up some packages, eat, maybe visit a bookstore, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: Which Kritzerland shows would you like us to bring to New York?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to finally be bringing the Kritzerland shows east.
