BUSY AS A BK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I had a lovely, relaxing Sunday, which really will be my last day off for the next three or four weeks, I think.  It’s going to be a very busy month, what with the Kritzerland show, Sandy’s album, and getting the October Kritzerland show cast and ready, not to mention doing all the prep work and getting the word out about the New York Kritzerland shows.  But I am ready, willing and able so bring it on, baby, bring it on and let’s all have FUN!

Yesterday, I got up after eight-and-a-half hours of sleep.  I knew I wasn’t really going to be doing anything, so I just answered some e-mails, then went and had a chili, cheese and onion omelet and an English muffin.  After that, I had to buy a big box o’ paper from Staples, then I came home.  Once home, I began a set of liner notes, then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I finished the rest of the Happy Valley episodes.  I really liked the series a lot, especially the actors.  As noted, the Yorkshire accents are a tough slog but once you’re onto the rhythm of it it gets easier, save for the actor who plays the young son – I don’t think I understood one word he said.  All six episodes held my interest, although during the penultimate episode the lead character becomes very passive and that got old very quickly.  Thankfully that abated and we got back to business.  There were several times that I worried they were going to go to clicheland, but thankfully they didn’t.  The show was well directed and written and I recommend it highly.  It’s streaming on Netflix and I’m told it will be back for a second series.  I do take exception to Netflix touting this as a Netflix Original when they really had nothing to do with the making of the show, but that’s the way it is, I suppose.

As happens when you finish a final episode or a movie, you then get three suggestions of other like shows you could watch.  One of those was The Fall, another BBC series, this one starring Gillian Anderson.  I looked it up, it seemed interesting and so I began watching it and it was quite different to Happy Valley, but very good in its own way.  This one’s about a serial killer on the loose in Belfast, with Miss Anderson being called in to help with the investigation.  It’s an interesting show with some unconventional aspects to it, especially with Miss Anderson’s character.  I watched three of the five episodes and am wondering if we’ll get any more about her character or if that’s it.  I will say, her English accent is not all that good and one wonders why they didn’t cast a real Brit.  But I enjoy her work, so I try not to think about it.  I’m looking forward to the final two episodes and season two will start in the next couple of months, from what I’ve read.

That really took all day and night – I did have some Chickin In a Biskit crackers and Bobel low-cal cheese for my snack and I did do a mile-and-a-half jog at some point.

Today, I shall try to finish the liner notes and begin on a second set.  Otherwise, I have a lot of things I need to get done, I’ll eat, I’ll jog, hopefully I’ll pick up some packages, and then I’ll watch the final two episodes of The Fall.

The rest of the week is morning rehearsals with Sandy and Lanny, then I have meetings and meals every day, I have to have a brief work session with the pianist for this birthday thing on Friday night, then there’s that, then the next morning is the first of our two recording sessions at Capitol with our thirty-five piece band and that continues on Sunday.  Directly after the Sunday session, I go to the Hollywood Bowl for a concert thing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, finish liner notes and begin liner notes, eat, jog, hopefully pick up packages and finish episodes.  Today’s topic of discussion: I am a terrible grocery shopper – when you buy stuff for your refrigerator and pantry, what are the absolute essentials you need?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall arise and begin the two weeks in which I shall be busy as a BK.
