DO NOT MOURN MY FEET

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, my feet are in heaven.  Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, my feet are in heaven.  No, my feet are not deceased.  Do not mourn my feet.  My feet are in heaven in the sense that I had a foot rub for one hour and my feet were in heaven and still are.  Prior to that, my feet were in hell, thanks to two weeks of steady jogging.  There is nothing quite like a foot rub.  It is said that all of one’s nerve endings are in the feet and that’s what reflexology is all about.  Hitting certain pressure points in the feet can purportedly take away headaches, help the common cold and a host of other beneficial things.  But this wasn’t reflexology, which can be painful.  This was nice rubbing of feet, first one foot, then the other.  I know of nothing more relaxing than a nice foot rub.  It is one of life’s great pleasures, at least for the likes of me.  If I could, I would have one every single evening.  And my favorite thing is at the end, when I then crack every toe and my ankles, which is just an amazing release of all tension.  That is what finally takes my feet to heaven.  Can someone please illuminate me as to why I’m spending an entire paragraph talking about heavenly feet?  I know a handful of people who are skeeved by the though of a foot rub.  This I do not understand at all, but I have to believe it’s because they have mutant feet that they are ashamed of.  And believe me, I have seen some mutant feet in my time, and they always belong to people who are wearing sandals and exposing their mutant feet for all to see.  I, thankfully, have beautiful feet, perfect feet, really.  I look at them and think, “There is a foot that is not a mutant foot.”  No hammertoes, not unseemly toenails looking disgusting, just nicely shaped feet and toes and always clean.  Clean feet are imperative if one is to live a rich, full life.  In any case, back to the point: My feet are in heaven but do not mourn my feet, for they are alive and well and living in the City of Studio, feeling heavenly thanks to an excellent hour-long foot rub.

Well, that was a thrilling paragraph about absolutely nothing, wasn’t it?  For people who loathe feet that paragraph will be anathema and I don’t even know what anathema is.  Oh, I know what anathema sort of is, but there are so many definitions and synonyms for anathema and frankly all that stuff is anathema to me.  Okay, don’t I have some notes to write?

Yesterday was a fun little day.  I got eight hours of sleep, got up, and shortly thereafter we had our morning Sandy and Lanny rehearsal.  I did give a few little tiny notes as we went along, but mostly I just sat and enjoyed myself.  After that was done, I went and had a cup of soup and a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich and no fries or onion rings, then I picked up a couple of packages, including a new Pie Of the Month selection – this time plain apple pie.  Then I wrote the little bit of patter for the birthday thing on Friday, and then we had our little rehearsal for the birthday thing.  The pianist is our very own Tom Griep, the singer is new to me but very good, and the birthday boy was there, too.  I think he maybe found it fascinating to watch how I work.  I made some arrangement fixes, gave the singer a couple of suggestions and ran my two short song things.  So, it will move right along and I think people will enjoy it.

I had a bunch of telephonic calls, and then it was time for the foot rub.  After the foot rub, I decided to go down to Barney’s Beanery with one of our Li’l Abner cast members so we could visit another Li’l Abner cast member who is working there.  I hadn’t been to Barney’s in about two years – I had a little side of mac-and-cheese for my evening snack, and we all had fun chatting.  After that I came home, but had no time to watch anything.

Today, we have another morning work session, and then I think we’ll mosey on over to the Daily Grill for lunch with our music contractor, a grand old gent (about eighty-five) named Joe Soldo.  After that, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, then I’ll relax and watch something, and perhaps finish some liner notes.

Tomorrow, we’ll probably have our morning rehearsal, then I’ll relax until I go to the birthday boy’s house to get everything set up.  I believe our part of the evening will begin promptly at seven-thirty and we should be done by eight-thirty, at which point I’ll go straight home so I can relax and hopefully get a good night’s beauty sleep.  Then Saturday is our first session and I’ll probably just go home after, or maybe go and have some dinner – we shall see.  Sunday is our second session and right after we wrap I go to the Hollywood Bowl for a Hitchcock film music concert.  Then Monday is our first Kritzerland rehearsal, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings are Sandy’s final vocal sessions, Thursday is our second Kritzerland rehearsals, Saturday is our stumble-through and Sunday we have a matinee and an evening performance.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a rehearsal, have a lunch, hopefully pick up packages, write, jog and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: How do you all feel about massage in general and what kinds of massage are your favorites, and what do you think about hand rubs, foot rubs and scalp massage?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall ponder writing my next novel – Do Not Mourn My Feet, a novel with both soul and sole.
