ITSY BITSY SPIDER IN A YELLOW POLKA-DOT BIKINI

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because I must be up at six in the morning to announce our new Kritzerland release.  I’ve been talking about it on the discussion board for several weeks now, and it’s great to be able to get it out for everyone to hear.  It’s the fantastic soundtrack to the six-part Danish miniseries called The Spider (Edderkopen).  The score is by Soren Hyldgaard and it’s just great, with echoes of Hermmann, Goldsmith, John Barry and a couple of others, but with a completely unique melodic sense – and melody is the order of the day – great themes abound.  The miniseries has recently been released on DVD and it’s quite good, and the score works beautifully.  This is basically the complete score, save for some repeated themes and cues – seventy-nine minutes of beautiful film music.  Here’s the cover.

Of course, this is highly recommended by the likes of me.  Yesterday, I got up at eight-thirty after about six hours of sleep.  I fell back asleep at nine-thirty for almost three hours, so I think I got about nine hours all told.  Then I got up.  Then we finally got all the boxes and boxes of DVDs I wanted to get rid of and those were then taken to Amoeba.  So, that’s a lot of boxes out of the garage, which is great.  I’ll probably go through and choose another three hundred DVDs and go sell those.  I just need to clear the space out there and I will never ever watch the majority of these again or I’ll replace with Blu-rays.  After that, I got everything prepped for this morning’s release.  I then did a mile and a half jog – I think the temperature was in the mid-90s and it’s really been humid, which I find disgusting.  Then I got ready to mosey on over to The Federal.

I arrived at five-thirty and met up with Adryan Russ and the Haverty clan (it was daughter Hartley’s birthday).  I only eat the artichoke when we’re doing our shows, but this time I got to finally have the rotelli carbonara – it’s meatless and not very cream-oriented, and I really enjoyed it and ate up every last morsel.  Thankfully, The Federal doesn’t do bread, so that’s ALL I’d eaten all day.  Seated at the next table was Jersey Boys’ John Lloyd Young – Michael Sterling is trying to get him to play the club.

Then it was time for Dan Callaway’s farewell to LA concert.  He’s moving back to what I think is close to his home town to be a vocal teacher in a college.  He’ll only be an hour from New York.  I don’t think he thought of this as a cabaret act, really – I think he just sang a bunch of songs he likes, including one he did at our last show.  It was fun, he was in great voice and the time flew by.  After, I was introduced to John Lloyd Young who told me he used to follow me for years when I was regularly posting on All That Chat – that was back in the early 2000s – that made me laugh.  I said farewell to Dan, but he’ll definitely join us for our New York shows, so that will be fun.

Then I came home and relaxed.

Today, I shall be up at six to announce our new release, then I’ll probably go back to bed.  I will get up, hopefully print out a LOT of orders, then I have some errands and whatnot to do, I’ll eat, hopefully pick up some packages, start a new set of liner notes for what we hope will be our next release, jog, and then watch something.

The rest of the week is meetings and meals, seeing a couple of things, and preparing for Sandy Bainum’s arrival and our week of work prior to going into the studio to record her new album.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, announce, print, do errands and whatnot, eat, hopefully pick up packages, write, jog and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: What were your favorite nursery rhymes when you were growing up?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall sing Itsy Bitsy Spider in honor of our new release, after which I shall sing Itsy Bitsy Teeny-Weeny Yellow Polka-dot Bikini in German while playing the euphonium.
