OPENMEAL

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, how can this month be half over already?  I’m dancing as fast as I can and trying to keep pace but boy do these months go quickly, each month more quickly than the last.  This is known as the phenomenon of The Months That Go More Quickly Than the Last, a phenomenon that began hundreds of years ago in Lithuania and then found its way to Pomona in the 1950s.  And now it’s everywhere, spreading like oatmeal.  Do you know what my darling daughter used to call oatmeal when she was a wee bairn?  Openmeal.  I like that better, frankly.

Yesterday I got very little sleep again – maybe five hours.  I don’t know what that’s about but I really need it to stop – some of us need our eight hours of sleep or we feel off.  I, for one, do not like to feel off.  Off gets very upset when I feel it and we can’t have that.  On, on the other hand, doesn’t mind being felt at all.  What the HELL am I talking about?  Oh, yes, yesterday.  I was up at nine-thirty and ninety minutes later I had an early lunch – a chicken salad sandwich and no fries or onion rings.  Then we began the reorganization of the garage.  The focus was mostly on the Kritzerland show books, which were in need of organizing.  It took almost three hours, but we now have over thirty of the forty-eight show books all organized and filed and easy to see and get to.  The earlier books are not here, so I have to retrieve them and we’ll get those all organized, too. We then organized all the CDs in the garage and got a lot of boxes filed away and off the ground.  It looks great in there now.  Then I did some errands and whatnot, picked up no packages, and then did a mile and a half jog.  After that, I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Netflix entitled Nymphomaniac Part 1, a film of Lars Von Trier.  I really have only see one film of this director and that was Dancer in the Dark, starring Bjork.  I kind of liked that film – it was odd but original.  Nymphomaniac Part 1 is also odd, but original.  I’m not sure I’m enjoying it, but it’s holding my interest.  There are a LOT of naked people in it, doing a lot of things to each other, if you get my meaning and I know you do.  The CGI is very good – yes, they used CGI for “those” scenes – they had porn actors do the scenes, then the real actors would also do it, but clothed in their private parts.  Then via CGI the two sets of actors were melded so it appears as though the real actors are actually doing the things they are doing.  There were also prosthetics used.  I’m not sure if seeing another two hours beyond the two I’ve already seen is going to be rewarding, but I guess I’ll find out when I watch Nymphomaniac Part 2.  The actors are all very good, and Uma Thurman is darkly funny in her brief role.

After that, I decided to begin writing the Kritzerland commentary and I actually got half of it done.  I’m sure I’ll be finessing it a bit and I did rearrange the order of a couple of songs.  We did decide to add the matinee and that’s selling well so far.  Then I listened to some music and that was that.

Today, I have a ME day, I think.  I will finish the commentary, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll eat, and I may be seeing a cabaret show tonight, although I won’t know that until midday as it may be sold out.  If not, I’ll just relax.

Tomorrow, I’ll relax and then I’m seeing Dan Callaway’s cabaret show at The Federal.  Next week is busy with meetings and meals, getting coifed from Teddy, rehearsing with Juliana Hansen and various and sundried other things including hopefully announcing our new title.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Wah-Watusi, for today is the birthday of our beloved Vixmom.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our beloved Vixmom.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR BELOVED VIXMOM!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, jog, eat and maybe see a cabaret show.  Today’s topic of discussion: What were your favorite breakfasts as a wee bairn?  And what kind of openmeal is your favorite and do not say the trendy “steel cut” because I HATE that phrase.
