FINISHING THE VOCALS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we have finished the final vocals for Sandy Bainum’s new CD.  The second session went swimmingly and we have wonderful takes to choose from on every song.  And Sandy got to tap dance, too.  So, now it’s on to the mix.  But even the rough board mixes that Sandy sang to sounded great so I think this mix will be pretty easy.  I think our plan is to try to release late October/early November.

Other than that, yesterday was both a fine day and occasionally an irritating day, said irritants coming from the usual direction.  I woke up ninety minutes after falling asleep and was up an additional ninety minutes, after which I fell asleep again and slept until eleven-thirty, so eight hours in there somewhere.  Then I did some work on the computer, finessed my portion of the Sandy liner notes, had some telephonic calls and then I had a meeting to see a theater for a potential project next year.  I have no idea if the project will happen but I liked the theater very much.  Then I did some banking, decided not to eat any foodstuffs prior to the session, had an annoying volley of silly e-mails, and also started prepping the announcement for And the World Goes Round for Monday or thereabouts.

Then I moseyed on over to Westlake Audio for our session.  The previous night our engineer had a sandwich from somewhere that looked quite good, so instead of Astroburger, I tried that and it was indeed very good – from someplace called Bristol Farms.  Sandy doesn’t eat before she sings, and she isn’t eating after since she’s on one of those cleansing things.  Since I only had that sandwich all day, I also had a handful of cashews, M&M peanuts and some pretzels, mostly the latter.  After the session I came directly home.

Today, I’m up by ten for a telephonic conversation I’d rather not have (yes, one of those) – hopefully it will be short and sweet rather than long and sour.  Then I may go have a small bite to eat, then we have our long second rehearsal for the Kritzerland show.  The added matinee only has about twenty seats left, so that’s good.  After the rehearsal I shall begin resting my voice for the weekend – I’ll just relax and sit on my couch like so much fish.

Tomorrow I have to just stay in and relax.  I’ll do some writing, but just rest my voice and body.  I’ll probably jog, too, but that’s about it.  Saturday is our stumble-through and then I’m sure a few of us will grab a bite to eat.  Sunday our sound check is at eleven-thirty, our first show is at two and our evening show is at seven, so a very full day and I’m sure some of us will even go out after for a bite.  Then next week we announce And the World Goes Round, I have to get two other projects in for approval, I’ll do the vocal comps for Sandy’s album and also I’ll be recording the commentary for Scent of Mystery/Holiday in Spain.

I also finally booked my flight to New York for the November Kritzerland shows.  If our East Coast dear readers would like to put together show parties for one or both evenings, let’s start that ball rolling soon.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a telephonic conversation, jog, maybe eat, hopefully pick up some packages, have a rehearsal and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite flowers?  When you were a kid, which flowers did you love?  Did you plant flowers and by those pretty packets of seeds with the pretty pictures on the front?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy that our final vocal sessions are in the can.
