RECORDING A COMMENTARY IN SMELL-O-VISION

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle eating a fried banana.  Does anyone still eat a fried banana?  Why yes, according to Google people do eat fried bananas.  I have always found bananas to be a completely weird item.  Oh, I’ve eaten them but I’ve never liked them really and they always kind of make me want to vomit on the ground.  I even think I ate a fried banana once and that was an experience I never need to have again.  I also sang the classic song, Yes, We Have No Bananas – it was memorable and forgettable at the same time.  Why the HELL am I talking about fried bananas and bananas in general.  Enough with bananas already.  Let’s talk about photographs instead.  Yes, we’ve got actual photographic evidence that yesterday’s shows occurred.  And we’ve actually had two lovelier than lovely reviews, so that’s always a nice bonus.  First up, here is our merry troupe of players. In the back row left to right is Bruce Vilanch, Kerry O’Malley, Robert Yacko, li’l ol’ me (I do hope I’m scrunching down because if I’m not I’m shrinking), John Boswell, Travis Leland, Evan Buckley Harris, Bruce Merkle.  In the front row left to right, Adryan Russ, Maddy Claire Parks, Hadley Miller, Sami Staitman, Jenna Lea Rosen, Kimberly Hessler and Adrienne Visnic.

We will have some videos in a day or two, so stay tuned.

Yesterday I just had to relax and so I did.  I got eight hours of sleep, printed out orders for And the World Goes Round, had a cup of chili and a chicken salad sandwich for my meal o’ the day, picked up a package, did some work on the computer and then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture entitled Young and Beautiful, a French film from France from director Francois Ozon.  I’ve liked many of Mr. Ozon’s films, but not all.  But this one I really liked a lot and I don’t really know why.  Just something about the style (Mr. Ozon is a real movie director who has elegance and style and is not a trickster or hipster or any other ster) and the characters I found interesting.  The story is paper-thin and I’m not even sure what Mr. Ozon expects us to take away from the story, but I just liked the damn thing a lot and that’s all there is to it.  The film is beautifully photographed and the short score by Philippe Rombi is absolutely gorgeous – there are also a few Francoise Hardy songs, too, which work very well. The young leading lady gives a memorable performance – Marine Vacth.  It’s on Netflix, so you may want to give it a try.

Then I went to Gelson’s and got some low-cal ice cream, came home, and had a little.  After that, I printed out some notes for today’s commentary, but I really don’t like being too prepared – I basically printed out what I wrote for the soundtrack booklet and I’ve got some other stuff, too.  I find commentaries where people are obviously reading from notes to be terribly boring.  I’m no historian but I’m probably one of the handful of people who actually saw the film.

Today, I shall be up perusing my notes and then I shall be on my way to record the commentary for Scent of Mystery/Holiday in Spain.  I’m hoping it doesn’t take longer than three hours total (the film runs 108 minutes so it really shouldn’t).  I’ll eat some lunch, hopefully pick up some packages and then come home and do stuff.

The rest of the week is meetings and meals, the Sandy photo shoot, and seeing a couple of shows.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a commentary, eat, hopefully pick up packages and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite fruits and what are the most exotic ways you’ve eaten them, i.e. fried, compote, cocktail?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall record a commentary track for a motion picture that once smelled.
