THE CRUX OF THE NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is quite late and I am quite tired and therefore I must write these here notes in a hurry because they should have been up a half hour ago and look what in HELL has happened we’ve got us a run-on sentence going on here and there is no stopping it it is a cascade of whirling words coming out one after another with no punctuation no point no grammar no just a mélange of nothingness parading as a sentence with no end turning into a paragraph with no end turning into an end with no end and I’ll tell you what might come in really handy right about now would be a period a semi-colon a colon an exclamation point a comma any old thing will do to stop this rollercoaster of ridiculousness parading as the notes.  Whew!  A period came to the rescue and finally we can move on to other matters such as these here notes.

Before we get to the crux of the notes, because we must always, in fact, get to the crux of the notes, I thought we might have a little early diversion, a little entertainment for you dear readers.  Yes, you know what that means – it means we’ve got us some videos to share from Sunday’s Kritzerland show.  Some are from the matinee, some from the evening.  The upload time to You Tube was outrageously slow, however, so we only have three to start, but I will have more later today, which I’ll post in tomorrow’s notes.  So, first up, why don’t we have the wonderful performance by Sami Staitman (Rob Stevens called her a “teenage sensation”) doing this lovelier than lovely rendition of How Lovely to Be a Woman and One Boy.  Sami took the notes I gave her at our second rehearsal, made them her own, and turned this into exactly what I wanted it to be.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Next up, here’s Sami and her pal Jenna Lea Rosen doing my song Pals.  I was so happy with the way they did this and I was a very proud songwriter thanks to their effervescent performance.

And finally for today, here is li’l ol’ me doing You’re Just in Love from Call Me Madam – with the irrepressible ten-year-old Hadley Belle Miller.  We had so much fun doing this.  In all three videos, that’s the brilliant John Boswell at the piano.

Yesterday was kind of a long day, but some of it was fun and some of it was relaxing but the beginning of it was incredibly irritating and if the irritants don’t stop I am going to just cease communications with the folks who are doing it.  It’s very unnecessary and harmful and I’ve just asked for it to stop way too many times.  But right after that, I did the audio commentary for the upcoming Blu-ray release of Holiday in Spain aka Scent of Mystery.  It was the disc’s producer, Dave Strohmaier, a lady who’d been part of the production (Beverly Bentley’s stand-in and the mystery woman in all shots from behind), and li’l ol’ me.  I kept things very loose and tried to keep it all light and fun and moving along.  I don’t think we ever ran out of steam and there are lots of fun tidbits along the way.  The film runs 108 minutes, but we took a break at the intermission point, and stopped and started a few times, so the whole thing took about three hours to complete.

Then I came right home and had to do a few things on the computer, then I picked up two packages, then decided I deserved a foot rub so I had one and it was GREAT.  I also had some dinner at the Studio Café – hadn’t been in quite some time.  I had my chopped Eyetalian salad and split some drumettes, all yummilicious.  Then I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

It was too late already to watch an entire film, but I did run the first twenty minutes of the new Blu and Ray of The Great Race, a film of Blake Edwards starring Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Natalie Wood.  The transfer is beautiful – the film has never been a favorite, even from back in the day, but the Blu-ray is so good I’m enjoying it quite a bit.

I also had over an hour-long telephonic conversation with Barry Pearl, catching up on all manner of things.

Today, I have some writing to do (two sets of liner notes due), and I am going to try a Valley deli Barry recommended, hopefully pick up some packages, and more writing.

The rest of the week is meetings and meals, the Sandy photo shoot, seeing a show or two and relaxing.  The opening night I thought was Sunday is actually a week from Sunday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, eat, hopefully pick up packages, jog, write and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to finally have gotten to the crux of the notes.
