THE RETURN OF THE RAY COURTS CELEBRITY SHOW

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, Friday evening at the Ray Courts Celebrity Fanfest is done.  Getting there wasn’t half the fun, as there was some horrid accident on Hollywood Way at Victory, but blocking ONLY the southbound side.  And yet, despite the northbound lane being completely free, they were having us wait – fifteen minutes of it – and then diverted us down some alley.  I got back on Hollywood Way by using side streets and then it was fine.

The attendance was really sparse and hopefully that will be better today.  But I’m just there to have fun and meet and greet, which I did.  I sold a Nudie Musical Blu-ray in the first five minutes, some photos and signed someone’s copy of There’s Mel, There’s Woody, and There’s You.  To the right of me was Al Brennerman, who played the wisecracking, cocky bellboy in Some Like it Hot.  He and his wife were lovely folks.  I chatted with my old pal Candy Clark and ironically I’d just been sent a copy via the Internet of this trailer I made for my annual movie marathon back around 1979 – Candy was the female lead and I promised her I’d get it to her.  I also said hey to the lovely Katherine Helmond, who I had on the Jeepers Creepers CD singing What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?  She saw me, took my hand and said, “You were so patient with me.”  What a doll she is.  I also chatted with Millie Perkins and Diane Baker, both of whom I was with at the Chicago Courts show.  I also chatted with the eternally youthful Nancy Kwan.  Oddest attendee – porn star Ginger Lynn.  I saw Piper Laurie, Don Murray, Kathy Garver, Marty Allen, Cathy Silvers and others.  So, here’s hoping today is crowded and as much fun.

At about eight, Sami and her mom came – I took Sami around and introduced her to Candy and Millie and Nancy, so she liked that.  I did not introduce her to Ginger Lynn.  We all left about eight-forty and went to the Coral Café.  We ordered just about everything on the menu and I am feeling very gross right about now.  We had nachos for the table, onion rings and french fries, and I had the three scoop salad – two scoops of chicken salad and once scoop of egg salad.  But after digging into the nachos, which I ate about a third of, I was already full, so I only really ate the scoop of egg salad and just a few bites of one scoop of chicken salad.  I had two teeny-tiny onion rings.  So, I don’t think it was all that much food, but it sure does feel like it.

Prior to that, it was another iffy night of sleep, about four and a half hours, and I just couldn’t fall back asleep.  At about noon I got the Sandy mixes (as did Sandy), so I got them into iTunes and listened straight through – it just sounds so good to my ears and Sandy seemed very pleased.  So, over the last couple of weeks I’ve been playing with the track order, but hadn’t found anything that remotely worked for me.  But after listening, I made a playlist and came up with an order that just might work – even if it doesn’t completely work, I think the majority of it will feel right and I’ll just have to experiment with moving a few things around.

I got the Triad folks our logo and blurbs and he said our shows should be on the calendar by Monday, at which point you East Coast dear readers can book your tickets.  We really need to sell out all four shows so be sure to spread the word as vociferously as you can.

Today, I shall be up by eight, shower and shave, and to the show by nine to get everything set up again.  I have someone with me helping, so that makes it all pretty easy.  I think I know some folks who’ll be dropping by the show, and I’m just looking forward to meeting nice peoples all the livelong day.  After the show, I’ll come home for a couple of hours, then I’m seeing a play in NoHo, after which I’ll sup with my engineer and his girlfriend.

Tomorrow is a total day of rest – I’m not doing anything and that’s just the way it is.  Monday is our first Kritzerland rehearsal, Tuesday I have a lunch and then am taping our radio show with Donald Feltham, Wednesday is another lunch, Thursday is our second Kritzerland rehearsal, Friday there’s some kind of meeting, Saturday is our stumble-through and Sunday is sound check and show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the Ray Courts show, see a play and sup.  Today’s topic of discussion: Who was the most wonderful celebrity you’ve ever met, and what made them so wonderful to meet?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland after having had such fun at the newly returned Ray Courts show – it’s good to have him and his show back.
