WITH AN EMPHASIS ON THE LADDER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, sometimes you just need a day of peace and quiet.  Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, sometimes you just need a day of peace and quiet and thankfully I had such a day yesterday.  I also had a day of quiet and peace and that was nice, too.  I got up around ten, after eight hours of sleep.  The helper came by to do some stuff and then I began my day of doing as little as possible.  I had a brief telephonic conversation, one of only two calls I took.  Mostly I kept my mouth shut and rested my voice.  Hopefully that rest helped, but I never know until we actually do the show.

At some point, I went and had a Jerry’s Deli chicken salad sandwich with no fries or onion rings.  I was so thrilled when they finally changed the way they did their chicken salad, which originally was really big chunks of chicken in way too much mayonnaise, into the finely chopped chicken salad I favor.  It’s been consistently great and I was looking forward to it.  So imagine my surprise when the big chunks of chicken in too much mayonnaise arrived.  I probably should have sent it back, but I ate it like a good soldier – it wasn’t terrible, but it was kind of sickening.  Then I did some banking at the bank, then came home.

I then did a mile-and-a-half jog, did a few things on the computer and then I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Netflix entitled Capital, a French film from France.  It’s from last year and was directed by Costa Gavras, who made Z and other good films.  This was set in the world of banking and exposed the rather sickening practices that go on in the world of high finance, mostly with the rich getting richer at the expense of those who struggle financially.  It’s not a great movie but I enjoyed the performances and watched it all the way through.

After that, I just played on the computer, doing a little this-a and a little that-a, with an emphasis on the latter.  When I was a wee bairn and first heard that song, I thought the last line of that lyric was “with an emphasis on the ladder.”  It made no sense to me, and then I found out why.  And that was pretty much it for my peace and quiet of a day.

Today, I’m up early, for she of the Evil Eye will be here by nine.  I’ll do a two-mile jog, then probably have poached eggs on an English muffin to tide me over until dinner.  Then I’ll get everything set up for our stumble-through – we have a huge amount of people here, what with our cast, our ensemble and various parents of the young folks.  I only have twelve really usable chairs and the couch seats four, so it will be tight.  At three we do the stumble-through and then some of us will go get a bite to eat when we’re finished.  Then I’ll spend the rest of the evening resting body and voice, with an emphasis on the ladder.

Tomorrow, I’m up early again and will hopefully be able to jog before our sound check, which I think is at eleven-thirty.  Our first show is at two and then I really have to rest and not talk until the second show at seven.  All I’ll eat prior to the first show is some fruit and then my usual artichoke before the second show, and then some real food later, probably at Little Toni’s.

Next week is hugely busy – doing the commentary track for Scent of Mystery/Holiday in Spain, meetings and meals and comping vocals for Sandy’s album.  Also announcing the new Kritzerland CD Monday morning, and all kinds of other stuff, including seeing a couple of shows.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, eat something tiny, hopefully pick up some packages, do a stumble-through and then have some dinner, then relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: Misheard lyrics.  What were some song lyrics you misheard?  My favorite is California Girls – I thought they were singing “Lipstick on the seat California girls.”  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I will hopefully wake up feeling good, rested, voice stronger, with an emphasis on the ladder.
