October 31, 2014:

THINGS THAT GO BUMP IN THE NIGHT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, has anyone else noticed that it is the last day of October?  How did that happen?  That means that tomorrow is November, and let me just say here and now and also now and here that it is my fervent hope and prayer that November will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.  Of course, being the last day of October means that it is also Halloween, a time for things to go bump in the night and for hundreds of little and big trick or treaters to invade the City of Studio, as happens every year.  I have over six hundred pieces of candy, so that should be fine.

Yesterday was a day and then some.  I did manage to ultimately get a bit over eight hours of blessed sleep, but I either was so tense when I had the tooth extraction or I slept wrong, because I’ve had a rather irritating pain in my back.  Add to that I don’t seem to be able to shake the feeling that I’m fighting something, so please send big excellent vibes and xylophones to win that fight for good and for the back to feel better.  I’ve got a show to do, don’t you know.

I had the omelet with cheese and avocado for my meal o’ the day, picked up one little package, and then waited for rehearsal to begin.  It was a longer rehearsal because we had two new people joining us.  David Engel, who ran his numbers, including his duet with Damon Kirsch (Bosom Buddies), a put-together of Movies Were Movies and I Won’t Send Roses and I Am What I Am.  And we had our guest star Karen Morrow who ran her bit, which includes a funny opener and then the song Love, Look in My Window.  When we finished, I went to Gelson’s and got a tiny bit of mac-and-cheese and a teeny-tiny cup of caramel ice cream, both of which went down easy.  I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I just watched one of those silly movies on Netflix, something called Escape Clause, a made for cable affair with Andrew McCarthy.  It was terrible, but I did finish it.  I then wrote the blurbs for our two releases, got the audio tracks sent to the web guy and all that should be ready to go.  I still have to create the eBlast, of course.  Then I just popped some Coldeez and some Airborne and of course I’m still taking my Amoxacillan.

Today, I have a one o’clock lunch meeting at Mo’s – I don’t really think the actually have one thing that will be suitably soft, so we’ll see what happens.  After that, I will hopefully pick up some packages, then come home and wait for the arrival of the hordes.  I will have a full running commentary for you all, of course.

Tomorrow, she of the Evil Eye comes, and then we have our stumble-through, three hours earlier than usual.  After, I’m sure some of us will eat, and then in the evening I’m seeing Ragtime out in Redondo Beach.

Sunday is sound check and show.  Then begins a very busy two week period leading to the New York Kritzerland shows.  It’s a little nerve wracking right now, as none of the shows have many reservations.  We really need that to change or this will be a four-star disaster that none of us really need.  Over the years, we’ve had so many requests to bring the damn shows there, so I’m not sure what this is all about, unless people are just waiting until the last minute to reserve.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, hopefully feel up to snuff, so do send your strongest most excellent vibes and xylophones, I must have a lunch meeting, I must pick up packages, and I must give out many many pieces of candy.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – CD, Kritzerland projects.  Blu-ray, going through the Tati box set.  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which it will be time for things to go bump in the night.
