Well, dear readers, I’ve had my share of turkey and I’ve had my share of stuffing and I am stuffed from the turkey and the stuffing even though I ate much less of each item than I normally do. Of course, there were other foodstuffs and I will not deny that I ate them, oh, no, I will not deny that I ate them. I ate some green beans (with those little crispy onion ring things), I ate some sweet potatoes (most yummilicious), I ate two count them two dinner rolls with butter, and I ate some cranberries, but only because it is one of the official foods here at haineshisway.com. It was all lip-smackin’ good and so was the company over at Barry Pearl and his ever-lovin’ Cindy Dellinger’s house. I knew all the people save for one and everything was quite festive. I arrived at around four-forty and we ate around five-forty. After dinner the conversation turned political so I just closed my eyes and ignored all of it until dessert arrived. Cindy made her very first pecan pie and it was terrific – with homemade whipped cream all over it. I also had a sliver of lemon cake, which was also very good. All in all, I ate much less than I normally do at these functions, and all in all I had a very nice, warm and cozy time. I left around nine-forty just to keep the forty theme going.
Prior to all that, I didn’t fall asleep until almost four in the morning due to a head full of things. So, I didn’t arise until almost twelve-thirty, thereby missing the entire morning. I got a bit over eight hours of sleep though. Once up, I was just lazy and played on the computer, answered a few e-mails, had a nice text message from the darling daughter and then sat on my couch like so much fish.
Yesterday, I finished watching a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled The Day the Earth Stood Still. I hadn’t seen it in many years and it’s such a good motion picture. It’s still as relevant today as it was back in 1951, only the press, who are sickening in the movie are even more sickening today. As is the military. What sets this apart from other films of its ilk and era is that everyone in the film is taking its plot very seriously. The writing is excellent and the actors just play their characters wonderfully. Michael Rennie, a superb actor, gives one of his finest performances as Klaatu, the emissary from outer space. And Patricia Neal brings such warmth and realism to the single mom of Billy Gray, that you end up really caring about the characters. One of the best moments in the film in terms of acting is when Hugh Marlowe shows his true colors and Patricia Neal sees them and realizes she’s done with him. It’s a wonderful scene. Sam Jaffe is also great as a scientist. The direction by Robert Wise is just perfection, as is the score by Bernard Herrmann, one of the most unique and influential science fiction scores ever written. The majority of the transfer looks great, with only a few of the opticals being rough in quality. If for some reason you’ve never seen this film, it is highly recommended by the likes of me.
After that, I just relaxed until it was time to mosey on over to Thanksgiving dinner. When I returned home, I just relaxed some more.
Today, I shall hopefully pick up some packages, and then I have to decide whether to mosey on over to Altadena for another Thanksgiving meal. I’m really on the fence about it, as I only know the gal who’s inviting me, the singer who sang at that birthday party where I hosted the entertainment. If I go, that’s when I’ll eat – if I don’t go, I’ll have my meal much earlier. We shall see.
The weekend is free and clear and so it shall be a ME weekend. I’ll go through the holiday show commentary to make sure I’m happy with it all, but that’s about it. I intend to catch up on movie watching and music listening. Then Monday evening is our first Kritzerland rehearsal, and I have several meetings and meals during the week, a Thursday night rehearsal, and then our stumble-through on Saturday, our sound check and show on Sunday, and then my very own birthday on Monday. We have to do our two rehearsals in the evening this time, due to our musical director’s schedule. It’s not my favorite thing to do, but we’ll get through it.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, relax, hopefully pick up some packages, and decide if I’ll eat alone or go to a Thanksgiving dinner. I’ll start – CD, the demo for Fred and Skip’s new show, which I’m looking forward to hearing. Blu and Ray, so many things, but next up may just be My Darling Clementine. Your turn.
