THE HORRIFYING ORDEAL OF YESTERDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it was another horrifying visit to Dr. Chew yesterday.  I am barely over the blunt force tooth trauma from a few weeks ago, and yet there I was at ten-fifteen in the morning, in the chair, with a needle in my gums for what seemed like the entire running time of Gone With the Wind.  The problem this time was an over thirty year-old gold crown – some decay had set in so he had to remove the crown, remove the decay, take an impression (I offered to do Don Knotts, but alas) and install a temporary crown until I get the real porcelain deal.  I’m happy about the latter, because I don’t like gold in my mouth.  It will leave only one gold crown on the rear upper left and I’m thinking about having that removed and replaced with porcelain – in a year.  I don’t know exactly what this entailed – all I know was the drilling noise was ear shattering and headache inducing.  It also took about twenty minutes to do, which is a long time in dental time.  I didn’t feel anything thanks to being shot up with so much Novocain that it could have felled an elephant.  I staggered out of there after about an hour and twenty minutes.  Obviously there was no way I was going to be eating anything for several hours and a lot more hours than the two it should have taken for the Novocain to wear off.  And this is obviously not the end – I’m back the day after my birthday to get my porcelain crown, and then I have to, at some point, have oral surgery to build up the bone where my tooth was pulled so I can get a crown over there instead of the big hole that’s currently there irritating me daily.

I came home, answered e-mails, did some work on the computer, and then went and picked up a couple of packages.  After that, the Novocain had finally worn off enough that I felt it was okay to eat.  I had some penne pasta in creamy tomato sauce – that was the best thing to eat and it hit the spot and the spot hit it right back because the spot takes guff from no one.  Then I came back home and decided to do my banking in the morning.  Fed Ex arrived with a screener, some movie called Get On Up – had no idea what it was until I looked it up and saw it was a biopic of James Brown.  I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture entitled Macbeth, the film by Roman Polanski.  I don’t think I’d ever seen it all the way through.  I’m not a huge Shakespeare person, but I ended up really liking it quite a bit.  Polanski is just such a master of film and it’s visually wonderful.  He does emphasize the violence and gore to an extreme, but if you look at when he made the film it was probably his state of mind back then.  Or not.  The actors are all very good, and there’s a nice, weird score by the Third Ear Band that works well.  The transfer on the new Criterion Blu and Ray is a stunner – just gorgeous, with great color, sharpness and contrast.  Interesting extras, too, so if you like this sort of thing I can’t imagine you won’t like it.

After that, I had to listen to music and do an edit road map.  I did some proofing of the packaging for our next release, which we’ll hopefully announce on Monday.  I had several telephonic calls and that was that.

Today, I shall do my banking, and then I’m lunching with Doug Haverty so he can get his Sandy CDs.  After that, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages and I’ll hopefully get in our packaging for approval.  I’ll also prep the eBlast and all that stuff.

Not sure what’s happening on the weekend, although I have a short work session on the Indiegogo video tomorrow.  On Sunday I’m seeing a club act at The Federal.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Black Bottom, for today is the birthday of our very own KevinH.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own KevinH.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN KEVINH!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, bank, lunch, hopefully pick up packages, prep and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – CD, a couple of potential projects and the demo for Skip and Fred’s new musical.  DVD, Get On Up, the story of James Brown.  Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be done with this phase of the horrifying ordeal of yesterday.
