THE FUN-AND-A-HALF DAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had our second Kritzerland rehearsal, which went very smoothly with only a couple of little hiccups to fix.  I gave a few notes here and there, and that was that.  It’s a jam-packed show, but the songs are really fun and the cast is just great.  And we had Jason Graae with us and went over what he’s doing, which I won’t give away lest any of our attendees be reading these here notes.  It was another long night, but entertaining as all get out and I think we know just how entertaining all get out is, which is DAMN entertaining.

Prior to that I’d gotten nine hours of sleep thanks to NyQuil.  I was up at nine-thirty and did my morning ablutions, then at ten-thirty I went and picked up my motor car.  I was actually charged no money today, despite the minor servicing, so that was very nice.  I then went to my noon o’clock lunch meeting at a restaurant called Home – yes, it was A Place Called Home, located on Hillhurst Avenue about three minutes away from the House of Pies and just east of the ABC Prospect Studio.  The menu was just my kind of menu – loaded with dishes I love like mac-and-cheese, BLTA, pulled pork, burgers, breakfasts, wraps and salads.  I opted for the Turkey Reuben because it’s the rare Reuben of choice for me – turkey, cole slaw, swiss cheese and 1000-Island dressing.  My meeting partner and I shared some mac-and-cheese as our appetizer and it was fantastic – real honest-to-goodness mac-and-cheese.  Every time I eat mac-and-cheese I’m reminded of Mack and Mabel, but that’s another story.

The meeting was with the head of the LACC Foundation, someone I really like.  We discussed the madness of the past six or seven months and he’s completely on my side about it all.  It’s done now so I’m just letting it all go, but he is as appalled as I at the way in which certain things went down.  Otherwise, we talked about quite a few interesting things, and someday, when enough time has gone by, perhaps I’ll think about maybe coming back there to do something – that will not be for quite some time.  I’ve told him, however, that if HE needs my help for any event the foundation would like to do, that I’m totally up for – I just won’t do anything with the theater department.

After the meeting, I came back to the San Fernando Valley and picked up one package and some mail.  Then I came home and found two screeners had been delivered – Boyhood and Foxcatcher.  I know little about either, but will probably watch them both today and tonight.  Then I answered e-mails, my piano tuner came and tuned my piano.  I also sat on my couch like so much fish and finished American Sniper.  It’s very well directed by Clint Eastwood and I kind of enjoyed it – the acting is very good.  But like all these kinds of movies, the scenes and structure ultimately become repetitious and become less effective as they do so.  There is one really terrific sequence towards the end that takes place in a sandstorm.  Certainly better than the last few Clint films I’ve seen.   Then it was time for rehearsal.

After rehearsal, I ate some shrimp cocktail shrimp and four yummilicious truffle Godiva things that FJL and Skip sent me for my birthday.

Tomorrow, I can sleep till about ten.  I have a dealer coming at ten-thirty to pick up some CDs.  Then I’ll do some banking, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and then I’m relaxing for the rest of the day and evening.

Tomorrow we have our stumble-through at noon, then some of us will go have a bite to eat.  After that, I just relax some more.  Sunday is, of course, our sound check and show and I will have a complete report for you.  I will also try to jog on Sunday morning.  Then Monday I’m another year older and I’m hoping that will be a nice day, but at this point not one person has spoken up about doing one damn thing, not even a birthday dinner.  Oh, well, perhaps I’ll eat some worms.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep, have a visitor from a local dealer, bank, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and then relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – CD, Skip and Fred’s Viva Max demo, which I’m enjoying.  DVD, screeners.  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy our second rehearsal was fun and a half, as was most of the day.
