March 13, 2015:

IN THE KNOW

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it has come to my attention that it is Friday.  Not only is it Friday, it is Friday the 13th.  As always, we give you the latest up-to-date news here at haineshisway.com.  That is why we will soon be the most popular site on all the Internet.  This is why people come from far and wide as well as wide and far to read the happenings here.  This is the place to be for those who really want to be in the know.  I would like to be in the know and so I come here and then I am in the know.  Not in the no, mind you, but in the know.  I don’t like to be in the no, I much prefer to be in the yes, no?  I’m sure I had a point when I began this paragraph but I’m afraid it deserted my directly after the first three words.

Yesterday was quite an interesting day – so interesting that I barely remember anything about it.  It was the fourth day in a row of nine hours of sleep, so that’s a good thing.  Once up, I vaguely remember answering e-mails and a telephonic conversation, and then I vaguely remember having a cup of soup and a chicken salad sandwich with no fries or onion rings.  I vaguely remember coming back home and doing some writing, and I vaguely remember having a couple more telephonic conversations.  Then Mr. Piano Man came over because once again there are troubles with the piano, this time the C# above middle C sticking and not sounding and the E above that clicking but not sticking.  He fixed both problems, but we are going to replace all the knuckles and hammers next week – he’s been advocating doing that for six months and it’s finally time.  Once that’s done, we will have no more of the endless problems that have been going on since I got it, and which have to do with some guck they used on the knuckles that has been nothing but trouble.  So, I can’t wait for all that to happen.  After that, I went to Gelson’s and got a little thing of rice and peas and some super Chinese slaw for my evening snacks, then I came back home and had a conference call meeting for the ALS benefit.  We still have some casting to do but it’s starting to come together.  I’m still waiting to hear about one cast member for the next Kritzerland show and then I’ll be able to finish choosing the songs, but we do have our special guest star, the irrepressible and crazy (in the best way) JoAnne Worley.  Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched the first four episodes of season three of House of Cards.  As you may or may not remember, I loved season one and thought the first episode of season two was one of the greatest hours of TV ever.  And then the show began to slide downhill for me, getting sidetracked in all sorts of not so interesting places and by the end of the season I was simply not having it.  Season three began well in its first episode – a lot of it having to do with one character, but giving us enough of the real leads to keep us interested.  Episode two was also good.  Episode three introduced what was, for me, a dreary subplot about the Russian president visiting the White House.  I like the actor (Swedish – one of the original stars of The Killing), but I just found it tiresome and a bore.  Episode four still has remnants of that subplot that I hope will go completely away.  Other fragments from season two are now coming back, including the actress I mentioned yesterday, Kate Lyn Sheil from the movie called The Heart Machine.  The minute she came on screen I remembered her character instantly – the lesbian friend of the girl on the lam.  She’s very good and I hope they keep her for a few more episodes.

After that, I just did stuff on the computer, took a shower, and then it was time to write these here notes so that everyone could be in the know.

Today (Friday), I have a very busy and full day.  It begins with Grant Geissman and the book design, and then continues directly after that with a Sandy and Lanny rehearsal for her new act, then two hours after that it’s a work session with Sami, then some dinner, then I’ll attend our show, which resumes performances.  I hadn’t intended to see it this much, but as it turns out I’ve had people I know at just about every performance and that includes this evening’s.

Tomorrow, we have a put-in rehearsal for our understudies, and then I’ll grab a bite to eat, then maybe attend the show, as I think JoAnne Worley will be there and I want to say hi to her.  Sunday, I’ll be there for the matinee to support one of our understudies, and then we have our added evening performance and I’ll be there supporting the two that are going on that evening.  Then we’re down to our final weekend of performances.  It’s been kind of a wonderful run.  Next week is filled with meetings and meals and stuff for the ALS benefit.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, design a book with Grant, rehearse with Sandy and Lanny, rehearse with Sami, eat, and see a show.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player?  I’ll start – who knows?  Your turn.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland happy to know that I am in the know but not in the no on Friday the 13th.
