THE BABY DOLL NIGHTIE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle in a baby doll nightie.  Does anyone still wear a baby doll nightie?  I don’t know that I’ve seen anyone wearing a baby doll nightie in decades.  And why not?  They’re awfully cute.  I don’t even know what people wear to bed now.  Shorts and a T-shirt?  Pajamas?  I think it’s time to bring the baby doll nightie back for everyone, including Albanians.  I’m going directly to eBay and will by myself an authentic baby doll nightie and I feel all you dear readers should do the same and then we should all take photographs and post them on Friday – which happens to be Friday the 13th.  I can’t think of anything scarier, can you?  Here is an authentic photograph of an authentic baby doll nightie.

1960s

Isn’t that just the berries?  Isn’t that just the whipped cream on the tap tap tapioca?  Isn’t that just the razz on the razz-ma-tazz?  What the HELL am I talking about?

Yesterday was a day of some kind.  I got nine hours of needed sleep, after which I got up and did my morning ablutions.  I answered e-mails, did some work on the computer, did some work at the piano and then made two tuna sandwiches on onion rolls.  I ate them all up, then went and picked up a couple of packages, then came right back home.  I did some assorted things for the ALS benefit and did a bit of writing for the show I’m working on, and put out invites to two female singers for the April Kritzerland show.  Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched two motion pictures on Blu and Ray.  The first motion picture on Blu and Ray was entitled Nightcrawler.  I’d heard very good things about it and so was interested to see it.  I sort of enjoyed it, despite its silliness at times.  The actors are all very good, and it definitely moves right along and has some good moments.  But there’s nothing terribly original about it, even though many thought there was.  It’s a little bit of Network mashed up with a few other sociopathic characters and all shot in the manner of the new LA kind of look first popularized in To Live and Die in LA.  I did have to check online to see if I was the only one who thought the lead character was not only a sociopath but someone with Asperger’s – and I’m not the only one.  Ultimately, it gets sloppy – there are too many times when the lead is at a crime scene and no one gets him away – it’s too convenient.  And I do think that entering a crime scene PRIOR to the police to get footage for a news show would cause someone at least some trouble.  The ending is a little too smart-ass for its own good, too.  But, I did enjoy it on many levels, so if you like this sort of thing, give it a whirl.  Transfer looks great.

I then watched the second motion picture on Blu and Ray, which was entitled Whiplash, another movie I heard a lot about.  Again, nothing terribly original here, but really well acted by the lead kid and by J.K. Simmons, who really did deserve his Oscar.  If one puts aside any actual reality, it’s certainly a film that keeps you involved.  In life, nothing like this could happen, not in today’s world.  There’s a lot of iffy storytelling here – the bleeding hands of the drummer, which any drummer will tell you just isn’t possible, the behavior of the teacher, which would have him ousted in about thirty seconds, and other things like that.  It’s basically a two-character film, with the other co-starring roles just window dressing.  The final nine-minute drum solo does go on a bit long and the ending was odd in terms of its message.  The direction, for me, was a little too fussy and aware of itself, especially in the “now” colors, most of which are done courtesy of a colorist.  It’s just too much after a while.  Transfer and sound are fine.  I’m told that Whiplash is the lowest grossing film ever nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.  I wonder if that’s really true?

After that, I went to Gelson’s and got a tiny thing of mac-and-cheese and a little thing of rice and peas.  I came home and ate them all up, whilst doing more work on the computer.

Today, I have more ALS stuff to do, writing to do, magic to do, eating to do, hopefully I’ll pick up some packages, and then at some point perhaps I’ll even relax for a moment or two.

Tomorrow I think I have a conference call meeting, Friday I’m hoping to see Grant Geissman so we can get the new book designed and finished, then I have a work session with Sandy and Lanny for her act, then I get to the theater early to work with one of our understudies.  Saturday, I work with both understudies going into the show on Sunday, and Sunday I’ll be there before the matinee to work with them some more.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do ALS stuff for the benefit, write, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland in my new baby doll nightie.
