TWO DONUTS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, once again it is late, once again I am tired, and once again I must write these here notes in a hurry.  Now that I’ve got that out of the way, perhaps I can stop and smell the roses or the coffee or the pistachio nuts.  I must say this year has been a doozy so far in terms of allergies.  I’m popping a lot of Claritin D these days, as it’s the only thing that works.

Yesterday was a VERY long day.  I was up at six to announce our new title.  I went back to bed but didn’t sleep.  I got up at nine and then moseyed on over to get coifed by Teddy.  He did his customary wonderful job.  Then I drove to Hollywood and took some photographs for the cover of Murder at the Hollywood Division.  I then sent those to Grant and he loved one of them, so he can now design the cover.  Then I went and had a cup of chili and a ham and Swiss on rye.  After that, I picked up about three days’ worth of mail and packages, then I came home.  Once home, I did some work on the computer, printed out orders, made the deal for the new book, so that as soon as we’re finished we can just upload everything to them.  I’m finding less mistakes in this book than any other we’ve done – there are always bad breaks or bad hyphens galore, but not here.  In the first ninety pages I’ve found less than ten things to correct.  I proofed about four chapters, too.  I then sat on my couch like so much fish and watched the final three episodes of House of Cards season three.  While there were some really good scenes and moments, the show just got too predictable and repetitious for its own good.  It really became a soap opera about marital problems, and that just doesn’t make for delicious drama, as in the first season, when the show was wildly unpredictable and fun.  So, a bit of a miss overall, but with some very good moments here and there and also there and here.

After that, I needed a snack and since I’d been so good at lunch I decided to get two donuts, because, you know, one donut wasn’t enough.  They were very good and I ate them all up.  I then spent a couple of hours proofing charts to see if all the fixes had been made – they hadn’t and so I had to do further corrections.  I’ve got all but one now, and I’ll get the corrected version of that in the morning, then he can start in on the next three or four.  Sandy and I had a back and forth on some patter corrections, so I think we’re fine on that now.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep.  We had to move our rehearsal to one-fifteen, so I think I’ll have lunch before that so I can leave by two-thirty or three to avoid traffic.  Or maybe I won’t eat and we’ll eat after rehearsal and then maybe do the foot rub thing, then maybe run the show again.  That way I can head home later, after the traffic has abated somewhat.

Tomorrow I’m hoping the Piano Man will let me know if he’s coming to install the new hammers and knuckles – I really hope so – I do not like not having the ability to sit down and play and/or write.  Tomorrow night we begin our final weekend of Inside Out.  I know a lot of people coming to each of the three performances, so I’ll be at them all.  Saturday we have our Sandy and band rehearsal at three and Inside Out in the evening, then Sunday we play our closing performance and I go right to sound check for the Sandy show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, eat, rehearse, maybe have a foot rub, then relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: If you could do one thing you’ve never done before, what would you do and why that thing?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall ponder why I felt it necessary to eat two donuts after being a good boy for lunch.
