MINSK IN PINSK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle doing an interpretive dance with an auk.  The interpretive dance is to the music of Friedrich von Lowensteinmuellermitterbech.  You may not have heard of Friedrich von Lowensteinmuellermitterbech, because he languished into obscurity without ever having left it.  But he was a very interesting composer in that he only wrote in the key of B major and used no more than four notes in any composition.  I’m especially fond of his Sonata for Flute and Lute in B major.  And his Concerto Grosso for Double Basses in B major is a piece of incredible power.  I’d like to see a resurgence of Friedrich von Lowensteinmuellermitterbech’s music, but since there are only three pieces that were ever recorded – the two mentioned above, and then the one that the gazelle and the auk used for their interpretive dance – Symphony in Eb in B major.  All three pieces were on a marvelous recording made in 1957, when these scores were rediscovered by conductor Franz Pimlich.  He recorded them with the Radio Orchestra of Pinsk in Minsk.  Or was it Minsk in Pinsk.  In any case, there were only eight copies pressed when the press exploded and the recording was lost, including the master tapes, which were sitting on top of the record press.  Happily, I have one of the eight copies, which I found in the late 1960s.  I treasure it greatly.  You know, if anyone has the slightest clew as to what the HELL I’m talking about, they should keep it to themselves.

Well, that was a paragraph.  I could only have written such a paragraph with a tummy in turmoil.  I thought I was past the damn tummy in turmoil but apparently not as there is turmoil in the tummy.  I haven’t let that stop me from putting a little food in there a little while ago, because I just needed something and I don’t want to succumb to this damn thing.  So, please send excellent vibes and xylophones for a calm tummy and sooner than later.

Yesterday, I awoke after about eight-and-a-half hours of sleep.  I immediately listened to my wonderful record of the music of Friedrich von Lowensteinmuellermitterbech.  It put me in a gay and chipper mood.  I then went and had lunch with Miss Kay Cole – she’s really wanting to do an album with me, so I think we’ll just do it.  I had a taco salad with chicken and it was very good.  Then I picked up a couple of packages, then went to the editing room to shoot a little video thing.  I don’t mean to be so secretive about it, and no it doesn’t have anything to do with Outside the Box.  It has to do with something I’ve been thinking about and pondering for almost a year now.  I was going to talk about it a few weeks ago and had even written that section in the notes, but, you know, we have prying eyes around here and I didn’t want anyone trumping what we’re about to do.  It’s going to happen this Friday and yes, it involves Kritzerland.  So, stay tuned.

After that, I went to Gelson’s, got some cucumber roll and some grapes and some almonds, oh my, and then came home.  I did some work on the computer, had some telephonic calls and then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture from last year entitled Left Behind, a completely inept Christian thriller about the Rapture, starring – who else – Nicolas Cage.  This is what the idiots call a “reboot” of another completely inept version made over a decade ago.  Now, what kind of dolt would reboot a flop?  Well, the same dolt(s) who made the last version.  This film is indescribably bad.  Nothing about it remotely works.  I’ve seen a lot of small percentage films on Rotten Tomatoes, the site that gathers reviews – you know, like 10% favorable reviews or something.  This film is 2% on Rotten Tomatoes, maybe the lowest rating of any film – if you look at the major reviewers the film was literally panned mercilessly by every critic.  It’s on the Flix of Net, and if you’re in the mood to see a truly terrible film, do give it a look-see.

I ate the cucumber roll, despite the tummy turmoil, just because rice is supposed to calm the tummy, but it really hasn’t and I’m feeling ever so nauseous right now.  I’ve been sipping on a 7-UP for most of the evening and I’ll go right to bed as soon as I post these here notes and hopefully I’ll feel better in the morning.  This was my third day without sugar.

Today, I will hopefully arise feeling no tummy turmoil, then I’ll do stuff around the home environment, then we have a short Kritzerland rehearsal with the performer who couldn’t be here the other day, and then we have our postmortem early meal with Sami and her mom.

Tomorrow is our second Kritzerland rehearsal, and then the postmortem dinner for the ALS show at the Smoke House.  Friday will be a new month and hopefully the start of some miracles we so desperately need around these here parts.  Saturday is our stumble-through and I’m sure some of us will go eat something after, then Sunday is sound check and show.  We have not sold a lot of tickets for this one – last month was difficult with everyone telling us Easter was a problem, although we ended up doing very well – well, kiddies, this month isn’t Easter and there aren’t any other holidays.  Hopefully it will pick up, but if it doesn’t, I really will end our long run instantly.

Let’s put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s dance the Hora or the Monkey because today is the birthday of our very own Vixter.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own Vixter.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN VIXTER!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, hopefully feel better, I will hopefully pick up some packages, have a rehearsal and a postmortem meal.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like.  So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have actually written the words Minsk in Pinsk.
