CHANCING FOOD

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I did venture out last evening and I did decide to finally eat something after fifty-some hours of no food.  I’m hoping against hope I can keep the food down, so send some excellent vibes and xylophones because at this point it feels 50/50.  Someone had gotten me a ticket to see Violet so I felt I needed to go rather than have the person have wasted money.  I’d never seen the show or heard one note of its score – and to cut to the chase, it’s just not my kind of musical theater.  I’m always amazed when something that had a three-week off-Broadway run, has a one-night concert version, and is suddenly deemed Broadway material – but it was a Roundabout production – I think their clear aim with all their shows is to find one that hits and can run – Violet was not that show.  Not every story needs to be a musical and this, for me, is one of them.  I’m not much of a fan of the composer, I thought the lyrics were okay at best, and the book tells its story but in the end I was left unmoved.  I do understand why actors would want to do it, but it’s a slog for audiences, I think.  I’m wondering what they streamlined or revised for the Roundabout version, which played in one act.  Since the end of act one is incredibly weak, one act would serve the show much better.  So, I don’t really need to talk about the production because when one doesn’t like the show one can’t really be productive in talking about what one has seen.  Some of the actors were very good indeed.

Prior to all that, I was in bed till almost noon, then got up, did some work on the computer, and just took it easy until the first of the two work sessions.  There were several times I almost cancelled everything, because my nausea kept coming and going.  The first work session was very easy, and the Sami work session was easy, too.  She’s getting over a cold and she just really needs to stay away from her school chums until we’re done with our workshop.  And that was my day and that was my night.  I will pray that I sleep through the night now without regretting my eating decisions.  I was famished though.

Today and tomorrow I have no plans other than staying in and relaxing, eating mildly, and hopefully picking up some packages.  That is it.  Monday is a holiday, so I get to relax even more.  Then on Tuesday I must be in tip-top shape for our rehearsals, which go Tuesday through Saturday.  Sunday is, of course, show time.  I’m really looking forward to working on this and getting it on it’s feet.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, relax, hopefully pick up packages, hopefully be able to eat something light and mild, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite musicals of the past two decades.  I have found most to be a chore.  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping the food stays put and digests normally.
