RETURN TO THE VALLEY OF THE NORMAL WORLD

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the long holiday weekend is over and I, for one, will be glad to get back to work rather than stay around the house being sick.  While I can’t say I’m a 100% better or even 80% better, I am feeling better.  I managed to eat an actual turkey sandwich on the rye bread (dry) and it didn’t nauseate me immediately.  The only other food I ate at some point later in the evening was some rice, a banana, and some applesauce.

Other than eat, I did no activities whatsoever.  I slept until twelve-thirty, which sounds like a lot until you know that I didn’t fall asleep until five in the morning.  All I did was answer e-mails, revise a bit of the Kritzerland commentary because of a change in material, and sit on my couch like so much fish.

I watched more episodes of The Honeymooners and enjoyed them.  I also watched two of the extras – the 60 Minutes segment on Jackie Gleason and all the outtakes from that segment where he talked about other stuff – all interesting.  Then I watched a motion picture on the Flix of Net entitled The Muppets Take Manhattan, starring Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy.  I didn’t think it was anywhere near as much fun as the original The Muppet Movie, mostly because I thought the songs were never better than average – music and lyrics by Jeff Moss, who wrote some of Sesame Street’s well known songs, especially Rubber Ducky.  But I never thought Mr. Moss was as interesting as Joe Raposo, who, for me, was as good as it gets.  That, coupled with some not so hot supporting performances, including a very bad one from Lonny Price, equals a film that’s okay but never great, and which wears thin very quickly.  I wish there’d been more footage of Broadway circa 1984 – aside from Sardi’s, there’s virtually none.  There were some cameos, some of which were not worthy of the people doing them – Art Carney, Dabney Coleman, James Coco, Gregory Hines, Linda Lavin, Joan Rivers, Elliot Gould, Brooke Shields.  The only one that really worked and made me laugh because of her perfect timing was Liza Minnelli.

After that, it was a couple more Honeymooners episodes, and then I did some work on the computer, took a shower and relaxed some more.

Today, I return to the normal world.  I’ll be up by ten at the latest, will have a telephonic call in the morning, then I have an early lunch meeting and I WILL eat, then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, then come home for just a bit.  After that, I head over to the Bank of Bur for our first rehearsal for the Sami show.  My intention is to fully block it in two to three days.  After rehearsal, I have a party I’ll try to get to but that will solely depend on how I’m feeling, as I don’t want to push too hard.

The rest of the week is rehearsals.  On Thursday, I’m doing a little recording project with David Wechter – just one song – after rehearsal.  Sunday is the Sami performance, then we head into Kritzerland rehearsals and another busy, busy week.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a lunch meeting, rehearse, and maybe attend a partay.  Today’s topic of discussion: When did you first discover Sesame Street, and what are your favorite Muppet movies and TV episodes?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to return to the valley of the normal world.
