ISN’T THAT A KICK IN THE PANTS?

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, why don’t we just start off these here notes with some gloriously glorious music.  That’s always a kick in the pants, isn’t it?  That’s always the way to start the day with a smile and a laugh and a song.  Ella Peterson told me so.  Yesterday we had Glitter and Be Gay, which is also the title of my third memoir, and today we begin with our very own Robert Yacko.  I had an idea that Lonely Town (from On the Town) and Something’s Coming (from West Side Story) just might pair together well in a weird way – and they kind of did, thanks to Robert’s wonderful performance of them.

Wasn’t that a kick in the pants?  Next up, here’s li’l ol’ me being forced to fill in for the damn no-show Guy Haines, singing the beautiful title song from Love With the Proper Stranger, a film I do love very much.  This was one of the very first songs I ever learned how to play on the piano, so it’s always held a special place in either my heart or my nose.

So, we’ve had our musical beginning to the notes and now we can just get through the damn rest of them.  Yesterday was an oddish day, even though oddish is not really a word.  The alarm was set for nine-thirty, but I woke up at eight-thirty.  The helper arrived at ten and we did our Costco run.  I got waters, Diet Coke, Airborne, floss, soap, detergent and a few other items – enough so I don’t think I’ll have to do another run before the helper returns.  We came back, she unloaded the car, then went on her merry way, whilst I went and had a turkey sandwich and no fries or onion rings.  Then I came right home.

I was e-mail volleying back and forth with several people, mostly about the weird e-mails I’d received.  The volley was between me and the sender, me and my cousins, me and my brother, and me and my shadow.  It was wacky, but it was nice to be in touch with everyone again, so there’s that. I had several telephonic conversations, did some work on the computer and we began the final five days of the Kritzerland a GoGo Indiegogo campaign.  Now’s the time for our big final push.  The last eBlast will go out today and then we just have to pray for a miracle.  After that, I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled American Buffalo, a film from the play by David Mamet, starring Dennis Franz and Dustin Hoffman.  I enjoyed most of it very much – no one quite writes like Mr. Mamet – he is a one-off.  The actors are really good but in the end there was just something about the translation to film that kept it from entering great territory, at least for me – and that may be the direction.  The transfer on the Twilight Time disc is probably a few years old but it matters not – it looks very good.  After that, I watched the first forty minutes of the supremely wacky film The Night of the Generals – I’ll withhold comment till I finish it.  I first saw and then spoke of the film right in these here notes back in 2007 when I watched a region 2 DVD.  I didn’t mind the film then, but I’m kind of really getting a kick out of it now.  Isn’t that a kick in the pants?

I also did a jog, got a Subway Club for my second sandwich o’ the day – usually I really like the Subway Club, but last night’s was a misfire – don’t know why really, but it just wasn’t up to snuff.

Today, I shall go through the commentary and finesse it, eat, hopefully pick up packages, send out the final Indiegog eBlast, and hope for miracles.

Tomorrow I have a noon o’clock work session for the Kritzerland show, then a meeting about the Sami show, to work out several details and such.  Saturday I have a late breakfast/early lunch meeting, and then we’ll have to see what the rest of the weekend holds.  Next week is rather insane with all the Kritzerland rehearsals.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, finesse, eat, hopefully pick up packages, jog, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite plays and films of David Mamet, and your favorite performances of Dustin Hoffman?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, prior to which I will kick a pair of pants.  Isn’t that a kick in the pants?
