THE DAY IN WHICH I DID NOT DO MUCH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and I must write these here notes in a hurry so I can scurry because my eyes are blurry but do not worry for as sure as my name isn’t Murray, I shall write these damn notes.  Frankly, there’s not much to say because I didn’t do all that much yesterday.  I slept about six hours and could have slept another six if I hadn’t had to get up for she of the Evil Eye.  So, I went and had some bacon and eggs, picked up no packages, did some errands and whatnot, and came back home.  I realized that I can’t do any more song choosing until we finalize our cast, and we’re still trying to do that, but it must be done by Monday or we’ll run out of time.  So, I did some other work on the computer, then just relaxed and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched a motion picture from the year 2003 entitled Paycheck, starring Ben Affleck and Uma Thurman, directed by John Woo.  I think the first time I saw it is when I bought the Blu-ray, but it showed up on the Flix of Net and I didn’t remember I had the damn Blu-ray, so I watched it on Netflix.  It’s goofy and nutty, based on a Philip K. Dick story, but I like John Woo and his nutty movies so I enjoyed it all over again.  At about the 80% through mark the image went to black and a sign came up saying they were having trouble with the movie and to try again later.  Say what?  This is the kind of service we pay for?  Happily, I just pulled out the Blu-ray and finished the last twenty minutes.

Then I watched a little of Charles Chaplin’s Limelight – a movie I really like.  I’ll say more after I’ve finished it.  Then I got a couple of small sandwiches to go from Togo’s – I had a craving – haven’t been there in over five years.  I got the small pastrami and the small chicken salad and brought them home and ate them all up whilst sitting on my couch like so much fish again.

Then I watched another motion picture on the Flix of Net called Violet and Daisy.  No, it wasn’t the story of the Hilton sisters, it was a motion picture about two teenage girls who do hits – not song hits, killing hits.  I’m sure that the basic idea came from the anime Noir, but the director’s a big Tarantino fan so there are homages to that guy.  It’s funny, that to the current generation he’s someone they rip off, just as he rips off other filmmakers from other generations.  It’s cannibalistic.  Anyway, the film was shot in 2010, shown at one festival in 2011 and shelved until it had a very brief release in 2013.  It grossed something like $76,000 – a complete bomb in every way, just like most of these kinds of films.  This one was a little loopy and fun in a certain way, but its real saving grace is a wonderful performance by the late James Gandolfini.  The two gals are quite good, too, and the ending is even a little touching.  It’s a little precious, but that’s okay because the director/screenwriter co-wrote the movie Precious.  I then did a jog, and then relaxed and played around on You Tube.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep, then I’ll jog, then relax until Sami and Alby come over and we read through the slightly changed version of our show, to make sure we’re all comfortable with the changes.  I’d already read through it again yesterday, fixed a few things, removed a couple of the changes that I knew didn’t read well, and added a couple of things.  After that, we’ll either all go get something to eat or I will.

This week is busy with meetings and meals and trying to survive and finalizing cast and songs and finally getting everyone their damn music.  Happily, we have three kids in the show and they learn very quickly.  We’ve also got messages out to a couple of potential guest stars.  I have a couple of shows to see, I think.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, read through the slightly new version of our show, eat, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them.  So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be done with the day in which I did not do much.
