THE RACE TO THE FINISH LINE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we’re in the last day and final hours of the Kritzerland a GoGo Indiegogo campaign, the race to the finish line.  It’s been a fascinating eight-week journey – I was concerned at the four week point that we wouldn’t get past $25,000, not that that is anything to sneeze at.  But in the last week, as I was told would happen, we began seeing a lot of action and now we’re currently at 56% funded.  Can we get to the funding amount?  I would like to think miracles can happen, even as the hours are ticking by.  Like Kathryn Kuhlman, I Believe in Miracles, so send your strongest most excellent vibes and xylophones for a miraculous finish to the campaign.

What you should know is that if we don’t get all the way to our goal then Indiegogo takes 10% of the total, whereas if we fully fund, they take only 3%.  So, let’s puuuuush this thing to the top and make today an exciting day right through to when we close this evening.  So, here’s hoping we can make this happen.

Yesterday was an odd little day.  Not much to talk about, really.  I think I got eight hours of sleep but with completely weird dreams within dreams within dreams just before I woke up.  The helper came by and did some stuff – she leaves at noon today and I shan’t see her for three months.  Her replacement helper was here, too, so hopefully she’ll get us through without any problems.  Other than that, I just relaxed and tried to get over my logy feeling. There were several events happening – David Wechter’s birthday partay, the closing of Doug Haverty and Adryan Russ’s musical, Inside Out, and several other things.  I did manage to finally eat something at around six – a turkey sandwich, dry.  Then I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a really excellent documentary entitled What Happened, Miss Simone, which, as you might have already guessed, is about singer and pianist Nina Simone.  It’s kind of a textbook example of how this sort of documentary works best.  It’s really well put together, it’s compelling, it doesn’t shy away from things, and it flies by.  I give this my highest recommendation if you like this kind of documentary, which I do – I just seldom see them so well done as this.  Kudos to everyone involved.

After that, I sat at my computer like so much fish, did some work, played a bit, had a long telephonic call, took some Airborne and that was that.

Today, the helper comes by in the morning to say goodbye and pick something up, then I have to prepare for this little video shoot we’re doing in the afternoon.  It won’t take all that long, but I have to write out some stuff so we don’t waste time.  I’ll hopefully pick up packages, do some banking, at some point I’ll probably eat, but mostly I will be keeping my eye on the Kritzerland a GoGo Indiegogo campaign, hoping we have an exciting race to the finish line.

Tomorrow, we have our first Kritzerland rehearsal, so that’s always fun.  Wednesday we have our second Kritzerland rehearsal, but before it I hopefully will be in the editing room for a bit.  Thursday I have meetings and a meal, Friday is our stumble-through, Saturday I have a fourth of July partay, and Sunday is our sound check and show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a little video shoot, bank, hopefully pick up packages, eat, and watch with hopeful excitement as we race to the finish line with our Indiegogo campaign.  Today’s topic of discussion: Who are your favorite female blues and jazz singers?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall get up and watch the finish line for that final burst of winning speed.
