ANOTHER REHEARSAL AND THE NEW YORK DATES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, our second Welcome to My World rehearsal was mostly good and productive. We added some new bits, I completely reblocked one longer monologue, gave Alby a new bit, and a few other things like that. Sami was very good for most of the rehearsal – when she’s on, when she understands what she’s saying and she does it brightly and with humor it’s just completely winning. So, we just keep hammering away at the couple of monologues that are a little problematic.   But there was much that was VERY pleasing and funny to me. I did the most work on the dissecting the frog song – it didn’t really work that well at the reading or the workshop because I never had the time to really figure out how it had to work. I think we’re getting closer and closer and it should be very funny. It involves audience participation and when we did it originally I just hadn’t figured out much for the audience member to do – that’s been rectified now. We also got the news that it really does look like New York is happening – we got the dates today – we’d perform on Sunday November 1, Tuesday November 3, and then two shows on the 4 and then back home. We’d be at St. Lukes next to Joe Allen – what could be better than THAT? After we finished, I came home, did a jog and had a snack.

Prior to all that, I got nine hours of blessed sleep again, had a nice visit with Mr. Nick Redman, and then I went and had a cheese and onion omelet and a bagel. Then I moseyed on over to the theater to meet with our set designer. After looking at the way the space is currently being used, he agreed with me that we had to go in a different direction, more abstract, leaving most of the playing space free and open. That’s going to work much better for us and give us many more lighting opportunities. His original design was just too literal for me – walls and stuff – I just wanted space and an abstract design. It will be easier to deal with the projection screen that way, too, and also Alby won’t be shoved into a corner against a wall. So, that was very productive and he’ll come to our production meeting tonight with a few ideas.

I believe the credit card debacle is almost done – and hopefully my money will be back in my account shortly. And I definitely am losing weight – sloooooowly, but I can both feel it and notice it in my clothes.

Today, I’ll eat, hopefully pick up some packages, and then we have our third rehearsal, and after it a production meeting. I’ll definitely have to jog prior to the rehearsal. And the helper will be picking up ten huge boxes of mugs. The T-shirts should be here early next week.

Tomorrow, I’ll catch up on stuff, and I think there’s a meeting to do. Friday, we have a pre-rehearsal here for the What If number, and then I’m sure some of us will go grab a bite to eat. Saturday we have a long day of rehearsing and Sunday we also have a long day of rehearsing. The really crazy time will be the Kritzerland rehearsal week, which will be absolute madness. I think we’re going to take the Monday off so we won’t conflict at all with Kritzerland. But on Thursday, Sami will go directly to the theater after we finish here, and work on staging stuff and do a line-through, and I’ll join them as soon as we’re done here. On that Saturday, we have to rehearse from ten to two, then go to my house and do the stumble-through, then go back to the theater if necessary. And then Sunday we’ll be at theater from eleven until three-thirty, then we go directly to the sound check – it’s just really nutty and the timing is certainly not optimal as we go into our final tech.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, and rehearse. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, mostly happy with our rehearsals and really happy that it looks like New York is definitely happening.
