August 14, 2015:

THE POINT OF NO RETURN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, is this month really half over? How did that happen? I tell you, this month is flying by, like a gazelle visiting Antwerp. I wonder what twerp came up with the name Antwerp for a city? Has anyone been to Antwerp? It is the most populous city in all of Belgium so it must have something to offer, like the Antwerp Follies. That’s why the gazelle is in Antwerp – business and pleasure. The gazelle is doing its specialty act of doing a triple lutz while twirling a baton and singing Dinner for One Please, James. It’s quite a good act – very stimulating to the senses. Speaking of senses, what the HELL am I talking about? Well, at least I finished a paragraph and once I finish a paragraph I’m at the point of no return, aaaaand, for me there’ll be no turning back. What am I, Gene McDaniels all of a sudden?

Yesterday was wacky. I fell asleep around two-thirty and woke up at five-thirty, which was a dirty trick on the part of whoever’s in charge of sleep. I couldn’t fall back asleep until eight-thirty and then I slept till almost one, so I guess I got about seven and a half hours of sleep overall. While I was up in the wee hours of the morning, I did some work on the new song, so that was at least something. Once up at one, I answered e-mails, some tree people came and trimmed trees front and back that were touching the power lines, so that was good. I did more work on the song, then went and had some mediocre chicken tenders. I should have ordered the non-mediocre chicken tenders. Lesson learned. Of course, once I’d eaten one of them I was at the point of no return. After that mediocre meal I picked up two packages and then came home.

The heat was unbearable – over 100 degrees and dry as a Five-Day Deodorant Pad. I had a few telephonic conversations and did some more work on the computer. Then I buckled down, Winsocki and wrote liner notes for the next Kritzerland release. John Boswell sent me some mp3s of the what if so the singers would have an easier time – the accompaniment with the melody and without. I then got that to all the singers. By then it was almost seven. I finally did a jog around eight o’clock and it was still hot out – about eighty-five degrees. Terrible. I then got a yay from another LA writer who will contribute a sketch to our little revue. I never got to sit on my couch like so much fish. I did have the air conditioning on for most of the day, so at least the home environment was cool.

Today, I shall hopefully sleep through the night. Then at one-thirty Sami and her mom and I meet at the rehearsal studio. We don’t start until two, but we’re going to shoot some photos for the CD booklet for Welcome to My World. Then at two Sami works with the wonderful Cheryl Baxter on her tap number. I think that will be very helpful for Sami and it will certainly smooth out the number and its choreography. Sami’s mom will shoot video of everything they do so Sami has a reference. I’m sure we’ll have a bite to eat after that – there’s a good Mexican jernt a half a block away or there’s Dino’s Pizza just three blocks from there. Or the Coral Café.

Tomorrow I haven’t a clew as to what’s going on, so maybe it will just be a ME day, although I’m thinking ahead to the October Kritzerland show. Sunday I have a morning meeting and then an evening meeting. Then on Monday we begin rehearsals for Welcome to My World. Very excited to do so, I must say. It will be fun to really have the time to get everything right and then to fill out the beginnings of what’s already staged and to add new things and get the staging of the numbers a little more concise, with added movements where that’s needed.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, take photos, watch a tap number get put together, eat, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, The Fabulous Baker Boys. Blu and Ray, the new UK 4K transfer of The Third Man. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, because frankly I’m at the point of no return aaaaand for me there’ll be no turning back.
