BREAKING NEWS ON A FRIDAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, tonight we resume performances of Welcome to My World. I’m told we have a little over half a house at this point, so that’s a step up from week two. I’m hoping we have some last-minute sales and we always get a few walk-ups, too. People are just starting to realize we’re here and we close in a week. Tomorrow night’s even better and the Sunday matinee is filling up, too, so that’s all heartening. We did have to make the decision not to come to New York for three performances. There’s just no way to financially justify it – getting us all there, shipping the set, rushing through a tech – just too crazy making, and when you add trying to fill up four-hundred-and-fifty seats over three days, well, I, for one, didn’t really want to go through all that. Plus I’m kind of in my hating to travel phase right now. So, instead, we may decide to reopen here early next year for a couple of weeks, right around pilot season, so we can get casting directors in to see Sami. We shall see. And that ends the breaking news section of these here notes.

Yesterday was an incomparable day of nothingness. I was awakened at about eight-thirty by some idiot evil spammer/scammers. I stayed in bed and eventually fell back asleep for an hour or so, so I think I got almost eight hours of sleep. Once up, I did some work on the computer, did some work at the piano, and then found out we weren’t going to sup after the pick-up rehearsal, so I went and had a bacon cheeseburger with no fries or onion rings. Then I had several long telephonic calls, after which it was time to get ready to mosey on over to the theater for the pick-up rehearsal. I ran the two or three things I wanted to finesse, and tried out a new line for the very opening of the show. We all thought it was funny, but it seemed to throw Sami a bit, so I told her she didn’t have to do it – maybe in our final week we’ll throw it in for one performance and see how it plays. Then we basically ran all the monologues but only portions of the songs. And that was that. Alby, our MD, now has to make a list of all the musical fixes we’ve done on the charts so the charts can be correct – we’ll then prepare the sheet music selections, both in single sheets and a full book, which will be spiral bound. That will all be for sale on Kritzerland – separate sheet music charts will be download only, but the book is a hard copy and will be very nice.

Then I came home, started watching a motion picture, but simply wasn’t in the mood. So, I did a bit more work at the piano instead, ate a Snicker’s bar and a very small bag of potato chips.

Today, I should have the Welcome to My World CDs here by eleven. I’m not sure if the helper will then go ship them, but I’m hoping she’ll be able to. I have the list for her, plus the invoices that have come in for it. But best of all, we’ll have them for sale at the theater. I’ll eat a sandwich for lunch, then relax until it’s time to mosey on over to the theater for our performance.

Tomorrow, I have some writing to do and I have to do the show order for the Kritzerland show. Then we have our evening performance. Sunday we have our matinee and I think that’s going to be a very interesting performance.

How many of you have seen the new Snicker’s candy bars? They’re trying what Coke did – using names on the cans like Superstar or whatever – in the case of Snicker’s they’re pretty amusing. Here are three I bought yesterday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do some work, eat, relax, and attend the evening performance. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, all kinds of things. Blu and Ray, next up will be Emperor of the North. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, with no more breaking news on a Friday to be had.
