EARL FINDS A TRANSVESTITE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Erll frsr trsfrtd, okay stop, hold the phone, put on the brakes, stop eating the falafel – I go to type Well, dear readers, and my hands are accidentally one key over on the keyboard, resulting in Erll, frsr trsfrtd rather than Well, dear readers. I hate when that happens, although what’s interesting about it is that Erll frsr trsfrtd in the rare language of the Lithuanian Eskimo means Earl finds transvestite. Earl was a well-known Lithuanian Eskimo bootjack who one fine day in 1972 found a transvestite living down the street from him on Lingenstrasse. Lithuanian Eskimo transvestites were such a rare occurrence on Lingenstrasse that the local paper, the Lithuanian Eskimo Gazette had Erll frsr trsfrtd as their headline in the June 3, 1972 issue. You know, if anyone has a clew as to what the HELL I’m talking about, please pass it on as I certainly don’t have a clew – no, I am clewless.

Yesterday was a day that felt like a Saturday, which was good since it WAS a Saturday. I managed to get nine hours of sleep. Once up, I did my morning ablutions, then went and had a meatball sandwich. It was very small, this meatball sandwich, but very tasty. I had it with no accouterments. Then I picked up a couple of packages, then came home.

I then set about trying to upload Welcome to My World to Amazon. Again it was very problematic and endlessly slow, but I finally managed to get it posted and with the correct cover, even though in the search engine the Hangover Square cover was showing up. I wrote them and I think they finally fixed it in the search engine. Then I did some work on the computer, then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Yesterday, I watched the first forty minutes of the new Blu and Ray of The Satan Bug – I’ve only seen it once before and I’m rather enjoying it. I’ll write more about it when I’ve finished it.

After that, it was time to get ready to mosey on over to the theater for our performance. We had another half-house audience, which in this theater looks quite full. I knew a few folks – Jonathan White and his ever-lovin’ Devin Kelly – Jonathan is one of the producers of the ALS benefits and he works at the Pasadena Playhouse. It was nice to see him and Devin. Also there was Jerry Hoffman, who I made a legend in The First Nudie Musical where he appears as – the Stunt C*ck. Funnily, no one recognized him, although I introduced him to a sweet family – the husband of the family told me he was a huge Nudie Musical fan and he said it just as Jerry showed up – it was funny. They were a friendly crowd and Sami did very well, but they were not what I’d call loud laughers. She did go after them at certain points and actually got them to laugh out loud. Some of that, I think, stems from the fact that she sometimes races along and they just want to hear everything, so when she lands on a laugh line, they don’t laugh because they’ve just been catching up and want to hear it all. Tricky business. But everyone who came up to me really enjoyed the show a lot, and that’s really the bottom line. Everyone is just amazed how she carries the show on her tiny shoulders. We did have a silly technical mishap due to our stage manager not plugging in her computer but allowing it to run on its battery – that’s how we do the projections, and the computer lost power and the projector immediately defaulted to a blue screen – this happened about ten minutes before the end of the show and that stupid blue screen was really distracting. Needless to say, she won’t be making that mistake again.

After, a few of us went to the Coral Café, and I had eggs Benedict again – very good. We had fun, and then I came home.

Today, we have our matinee. It should be very interesting for reasons you’ll know when I write about it in tomorrow’s notes. I think we have a similar-sized house to last night’s show – about half, maybe a bit more. After the show, just a few of us will go out for a good meal, maybe even the Smoke House.

This week is all meetings and meals, show ordering, commentary writing, and then we begin our final week of performances – we added one on Thursday night and hopefully we’ll actually have people there.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, attend our matinee, eat, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have load of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland where I shall dream of the story of Earl finding a transvestite on Lingenstrasse.
