THE NICE, RELAXING DAY IN WHICH I ATE A BREAKFAST BURRITO IN A BIG BOOTH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I had a rather nice day off or almost day off. It was, of course, a Jewish holiday, which means that every Jew in Studio City decided to go to Jerry’s Deli. What else is new? I managed to get nine hours of sleep, and I just dawdled, Amaryllis, and caught up with e-mails and telephonic calls. Then I, being a Jew, went to Jerry’s Deli at noon – it was packed and I had to sit at one of the gigantic booths in the back. I had a breakfast burrito consisting of eggs, cheese and onions, some guacamole and salsa, and then a bagel. It was good and then I came directly home.

I did a little bit of work on the computer, wrote the blurb for the CD announcement of Welcome to My World, which will probably go live today at some point, and then I did a jog. After that, I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a documentary on the Flix of Net entitled To Be Takei, about actor George Takei. It’s a charming portrait and touching at times and very funny at times. I enjoyed it very much. I also recorded the first part of the Walt Disney documentary on PBS and am recording part two this evening, so I can watch it in one fell swoop.

After that, I relaxed, ate about four ounces of spaghetti with a bit of butter and cheese, listened to music, decided for sure on what the October Kritzerland is, chose a bunch of songs, had a few telephonic calls and prepared the eBlast for Welcome to My World. So, basically a nice, relaxing day and evening, which I really needed.

Today I have a noon o’clock lunch meeting with Kay Cole. After that, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages. Then I’ll relax until it’s time to go to the recording studio in West Los Angeles – I’ll get there around six-thirty. The plan is to record until about ten, maybe a little after that, depending on how we’re doing. It will actually be nice to hear the songs played on a real piano.

Tomorrow, we do our second evening of recording, again we’ll work until ten or a bit later, or maybe we’ll even wrap a bit early and John can start mixing. He’ll mix quickly and I’ll approve each mix as he sends them to me, or ask for adjustments, but this one’s pretty easy – just piano and voice – once I like the balance, it’s pretty much that all the way. Thursday we have a pick-up rehearsal around four-thirty or five that will last as long as it takes to run the show and clean up a couple of things that aren’t working as well as I’d like. Friday we’re back to our performances.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a meeting, hopefully pick up packages, do a jog, and have a recording session. Today’s topic of discussion: Were you a Star Trek fan when the original series was shown? Did you become a fan when it was in reruns in subsequent years? Were you a fan of the movies? If so, what were your favorite episodes, and which of the movies are your favorites. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a nice, relaxing day to start the Jewish New Year.
