SCARY, SCARY HALLOWEEN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I do believe it is Halloween. Not only is it Halloween, it is also the final day of October, which boggles my already boggled mind and that’s scarier than Halloween, let me tell you THAT. In any case, it is Halloween and I shall be donning this year’s costume very soon – my costume is very clever – I’m going as a four-toed sloth and that’s one toe too many for a sloth, hence the scary factor. I’ll be playing scary music for the trick or treaters – Vaughan Williams Fantasia on Greensleeves. If THAT doesn’t scare the little tykes, nothing will. But more about Halloween in a moment.

Yesterday wasn’t a terrible day. It was a fairly even-keeled day. I got less than eight hours of sleep, maybe seven, which is less than eight and more than six. Once up, I had to go to the Hills of Beverly to drop something off. That I did, and then I came right back home. Once home I caught up on e-mails, did some work on the computer, continued making song choices, and finished watching My Fair Lady. By that time it was time to get ready for the birthday dinner. The Staitmans were picking me up at six. At five-forty-five they called and said the dinner was cancelled, due to the Staitman dad being in too much pain from his surgery earlier in the week. So, the dinner will be rescheduled for Thanksgiving weekend. I was, of course, starving, since I’d saved myself for a big dinner, so I moseyed on over to Hugo’s and had my usual small Caesar salad and pasta papa – not the best they’ve been but it hit the spot. Then I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Black Widow, starring Debra Winger and Theresa Russell. I’ve written about the film several times so no need to rehash it again, other than to say it’s one of those movies I can watch over and over again. Critics didn’t care for it back in the day, and some seem to have trouble with the plotting, and I have no idea why, really. It’s quite a nifty little thriller with terrific performances, excellent direction, a good script and a great score. The Blu-ray from Twilight Time looks very good, with perfect color, good contrast and detail and great sound. Highly recommended by the likes of me.

After that, I did more work on the computer, listened to the final Vaughan Williams symphony – the other day I mistakenly said he’d only written eight, but he did write nine and the ninth is a corker – really wonderful. I also watched the finalized Welcome to My World video and it’s quite good and really shows what the production was like.

Today, I must be up early because she of the Evil Eye is coming. I’ll go have a light breakfast, hopefully pick up some packages, buy some stuff to eat during the evening, and then relax until the trick or treaters get here. We usually have huge numbers of them (I have about 500 pieces of candy), and I’ll be getting up and down from about six to nine.

Tomorrow, I’m going to see our own Doug Haverty acting in a Lesbian vampire play. We’ll grab a bite after the show, and then I’ll come home and relax. This week is very busy finalizing the Kritzerland show and getting everyone their music and stuff (we still don’t have a musical director, which is worrisome and annoying), and I have a lot of meetings and meals and have to set a date to do one more musical theater workshop at LACC in the next couple of weeks.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, eat, hopefully pick up packages, finish choosing songs, relax, and then give out a lot of candy. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite Halloween memories? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall prepare for a scary, scary Halloween.
