SINGING THE LATVIAN NATIONAL ANTHEM IN Cb

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week has flown by, like a gazelle singing the Latvian National Anthem. What, you think I make this stuff up? You think there’s no Latvian National Anthem. Think again, baby. The Latvian National Anthem is called Dievs Sveti Latvju (God Bless Latvia) and was written in 1873 by a Latvian named Karlis Baumanis. Fool around with me, sister – I know what I’m talkin’ about. You want to know about all things Latvian, here is where you come. The gazelle loves the Latvian National Anthem. Here’s a You Tube video so you can hear it, and if you look really closely you will see the gazelle in amongst the hundreds of people. Well, Latts move on, shall we? We don’t allow groaning here at haineshisway.com.

Yesterday was a productive day after we got the wasted morning out of the way. I was up at nine-thirty after not enough sleep and to the car place by ten-fifteen. They checked it out, realized it wasn’t a programming issue, and said it could be one of two things, but that they didn’t have either part in stock so they couldn’t actually ascertain which thing it is. So, a completely wasted trip there and I’ll have to come back again when the parts come in. Kind of irritating, if you ask me. I then came home, then went and had a bite to eat, said bite consisting of a chili, cheese, and onion hot dog and a tiny amount of french fries, both very good. Then I came home and continued writing the commentary for Sunday’s event. The show order keeps changing and morphing, but I finally got it all done and now it will just be moving things around and making cuts, if necessary. Then I continued writing the Kritzerland commentary. I did a jog, then I took a break and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I attempted to watch a SAG screener of a show called Unreal. And boy was it unreal. I couldn’t last ten minutes. It’s exactly what I was talking about in yesterday’s notes – a smarmy, winky show with quote marks around everything, with writers who think they’re writing “current” and “smart” but who are writing anything BUT those things. Just terrible. Then I tried an AMC pilot for a show called Humans. The art is awful, the promos aren’t promising, but the show, which is made in England, was quite good, I thought. A forty-two minute hour-long show that held my interest, had some ideas (it’s nothing new, really – just think Blade Runner and A.I. – this even shares an A.I. actor, William Hurt), and had a good cast of players. It’s actually based on a Swedish show called Real Humans, which I’m now curious to see. But since I’ve started with this version, I’ll watch all eight episodes first, and then watch the Swedish version, which I gather goes about the story in a different way. Anyway, I liked the pilot.

After that, I finished writing the Kritzerland commentary, ate a chicken sandwich of my own making, answered e-mails and did some other work on the computer. I’m really happy to have the two commentaries done.

Today, I shall relax, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and I’m praying we get our packaging approval, so send lots of excellent vibes and xylophones. Then we have a long rehearsal for Sunday’s show. I’ll listen to everything, see how I feel about the proposed order and length of the show, then make my recommendations for adjustments. Looking forward to hearing all the material.

Tomorrow I get to relax during the day, and then I’m seeing a play, after which we’re all going to Little Toni’s for food, so I’ll either just have a very light snack at some point, or try to tough it out until Little Toni’s. Sunday is, of course, the birthday bash.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, relax, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and have a rehearsal. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, haven’t a clew. Blu and Ray/DVD, screeners and stuff to catch up on. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall awake and with you dear readers sing the Latvian National Anthem in the key of Cb.
